Dove town

All about the towns of violence

See the dove, there he rests

Ringing out his song of silence

From the love beats in his chest

Hear him sing ye soldiers marching

Smiling at the coiling smoke

Well your guns will do their arching

Though you might think life's a joke

And all death is merely piling

Bodies up to count to ten

Facing walls the men go filing

But they cry as women wept

See the dove go spiralling, spiralling

Over above the tower blocks

Peaceful bird of love is riling

With the dragon which strangles hope

Come now let down your ladders trailing

Up to heaven's stair as rope

Though the hangman's snares are rivalling

Jesus, God and the Holy Ghost

Fight the urge to despair my young ones

All is love, when love is most

And when is least, then forget worth-whiling,

All is worthy when the Lord's your host

Army, army young men smiling

Young women in their arms may boast

But the dove he yet goes spiralling

Above the town where he's needed most
