Time tree

 Lime tree, lime tree

Lime tree, lime tree

When it falls

In your lemon heart

Lime tree

Time tree

Time is a tree

With roots down to the past

And branches out to the future

Time tree

Time drops its leaves

And it grows new shoots

Time and time and time again

Time tree

Oh the squeeze of time

is a bitter fruit

But then the time, yours and mine

Is a time tree pursuit

Time tree

Time tree

Time is yours and mine

Time tree

Time tree

Through the forest park

Time's leaves fall on the path

Time's tree turns dark

Time tree, time tree

The tree of time is yours and mine

Time tree

Time tree sheds off its bark

Some will put their ears to its trunk

But they never hark

Time's tree through our lives

Time's tree in the park

Time tree ever shining on

Time tree is never dark

Cities of gold

Well I went to the city

The city of orphans

And I looked up to the heavens

And saw Angels of light

And they danced on the tower blocks

Like so many dolphins

Chasing

Fluorescent algae in the oceans of night

And I went to the city where love was a Dauphine

And he ruled like a despot The streets of might

And the colours of flags

Drained into the gutters

And the streamers of politics

Laid down by my side

And I saw without eyes

All the blind men were leading

And I drank from the well

With the horses of flight

And they ran down the rivers

The rivers of ancients

Inside the mouth of the mind

Of delight

And seasons of stones

They shrouded their faces

On the pavements alone

Where the crooked do fight

And the call of the country

It echoed down the empty street

And I called back the anarchy

To patrol the midnight

The town was so golden

So rich and so stolen

And it gleamed in the dazzling

Blood of the moon

And all the men lusted

After what they'd beholden

And all the women wept

And then they did swoon

And the city of gold

Stood above the horizon

Like in cloud castles

That roll down in the night

And though the people were hungry

And their bellies were swollen

They kept craving the gold

That was out of reach but not sight

Envy of you

 Envy, Envy of you

I have walked through many forests

Could not see the wood for the trees

Been up to the highest mountains

Down to the bottom of the deepest seas

But there is one thing I know to be true

Oh, yes the Envy of you

No matter where I may be walking

No matter who it is I see

The egg shells that lie broken

Crumble under my bended knees

And I hear your voice has spoken

I see the make believe

Of a world sold like a token

To those who it would leave

The envy, the envy of you

I try

I tried to meet you in the street

Oh I tried to beat it with my feet

I tried to stop but I repeat

Oh I tried, how I tried

I tried to love you in the chair

I tried to love and show I care

I tried to hug you like a bear

I tried, oh lord how I tried

I tried to sing a song so sweet

One where love was something to eat

And we had been so hungry

Until we did meet

Oh I tried, how I tried

And in the fall, in the grey air

That calls back hope and raises despair

I fall like snow and melt like sleet

That shawls on shoulders kindly greet

I tried, oh I tried

But all this disappears like summer

I saw the last butterfly today

It thought only of summer haze

And danced it's light flight on the days

As winter marches to the beat

Of the yearly drummer

Love got blown apart

In the Chimney sweep make up department

IF YOU ARE A FISH PUT ON YOUR SCALES,

AND IF  you're a hare well

Make a tail

And if you're a bear

Then come on and care

Because a love got blown apart

If you're a tv then don't tune out

If you're a radio then scream and shout

And if you're the sea then come follow me

Because this love got blown apart

Because love got blown apart

I don't know about your house

Perhaps it's got four walls

Perhaps your bedrooms warm and sweet

Perhaps your sunflowers grow tall

Perhaps the dogs at midnight

Don't howl at the drunken fools

But I know my seat is poor on feet

For its love got blown apart

Yes this love got blown apart

The gypsy and the sailor

They rowed their rocking boat

Out upon the ocean

But their ship it didn't float

The storm it blew in rages

Like a snarling lion torn

Out from between the pages

Of a book that was never born

And sailors wrack their sails

And monkeys stack the shot

And big brutes of men are nailers

Of the gold that's cold not hot

And treasure lies beneath the deck

But galley lugs are lorn

And all got sunk beneath the waves

Because the love was torn

Yes the love got blown apart boys

Their love got blown apart

The four winds crossed

And the ship got lost

When the love was blown apart

There is a woman around clock

What is it I'm good for?

Is it ever enough?

With a bullet in my skull, full of your love

Shoot me down at midnight

Kill me just at lunch

Duel with me at dawn

Pushing the buttons of love

There can be no answer

None that I know from stuff

That floats around the dancer

In a raging storm of love

There's a woman around midnight

And one comes to me at dawn

There's a woman in the dying light

And a woman when you're born

There's a woman every hour

A woman round the clock

And they keep you in their power

Until their ship does dock

Second hand of woman

Third hand of man

Hours of the child

Who counts the summertime

Making all your plans

Day after day

Filling up your Gods

Moulding like your clay

Can you bring me to you?

What should I say?

I am dying in your love

Dying on your lawn today

Heman on Holiday

 Heman went on holiday

To the land of the dead

There he met skeletor

Who to Heman said

Oh Heman where's your musket

Where is Shera and snarf

And where are all your grateful disciples

To this Heman just laughed

I left them back in rainy England

They can dig their own graves

I'm done with saving the Universe this month

I'm a master and not a slave

I leave it to the skivvies

To do the work for me

They can rescue the scraggy navvies

They can bolster the refuggees

I'm on holiday in Lanzarote

And here I'm going to stay

Well Skeletor was so impressed

And deep down in his evilness

He conjured up a plan

To invade Castle Grey Skull

While the cat is away the mice may play

And this cat's had one hell of a day

He'll be dozing for some time

In the sun

So Skeletor returned to England

And held his wife Shewar

For a victim

And told the world he was their master

and he held the master plan

Worlds apart

 They don't want to be

Part of the family

They wanted to be different

They wanted to be estranged

On the other side of the world

Bold in bold way

Brave in a brave

Carnival of the senses

Walking charade

Doctor of commerce

Sister of slade

Condominium for improvement

Out in the everglade

Dog without a bone

Arrow without a heart

Sharp things and all alone

In the frozen dark

Diamonds in the fire

Sending out their sparks

Rug lights on the wire

Hanging out worlds apart

Well we used to be a family

Around the inglenook hearth

We used to hold the everglade

But now we are apart

And dogs that howl in the moon fields

Foxes run, and fishes dart

Shoot me with your wild wind

Because we're worlds apart

I should be an astronaut

And walk upon the moon

Perhaps I'll meet a family there

One with a silver spoon

Perhaps all the money

cannot buy back a broken heart

But it could buy me a ticket to fly

Because we're worlds apart

Queen

She looked back on her life

The good and the dark

The memories of sorrow like

A twisted willow bark

She always counted her blessings and blew

A kiss to her nephews and those who she knew

And the speeding train kept coming

Through the tunnel took aim

It had her in its sights like a shooting flame

Speed up, steam train speed up through the dark

The tunnel is long, but on the other side is light

She didn't want to fall to pieces at the very end

All of these sweet meats had somehow taken her name

Mother of appeasement

Mother of the dark

Queen of all concealment

Cloak and dagger heart

Hope in desperation

Light of the nation

Remember us now

Before you depart

Great figures you did know

Now time has brought low

Seasons of the blessings

And choices cut like ribbons

At supermarket openings

And places of state

High churches at your gate

And turning around watching

The parade of colours march

All of these occasions held aloft

The nation's torch

Shine, shine a light down on Earth

Where has man gone wrong

Never worth the question

What good can we do now?

That is the abiding notion

Many rocks have fallen from the fascia's face

And a crumbling mantle piece

But a fierce fire in the grate

The Mansion still stands

All the enemies gather at the gate

But her energy lives on

In the men and women of state

Herman the merman

I had many views from the north to the south

I very rarely got news from the cave's mouth

And for all that I knew we could have been at war

Oh I was the merman hermit

A fishy tail, much like a whale

A salty spray out of the way

I should guess but it was less

I was the merman hermit

I went to walk in fish markets

And saw my cousins on the scale

And asked where's the tail of the whale?

They said They'd not suffer the waste

But I said I'm fish up to the waist

I am Herman the Merman can't you tell?

Mermaid

 She was a mermaid

She had water on the brain

She was a mermaid

She had water in her heart

It was half-full

It was half-full of salt and

It was half-full

It was half-full of water

She was a mermaid

She cried tears made of the sea

She was maid enough for me

A mermaid

Half fish and half human

A mermaid

She had water in her legs

And scales for a tail

and she layed those fishes

Well they were almost like a whale

She knew just exactly

The way to the sea

She was a mermaid

And maid enough for me

Cow turns, don't Kow Tow

 Cows in the field

Just as I was praying

Saying me Psalm,

The cows came from behind

Meaning to do me harm

But I kept reading

I kept putting my hands together

Each time I turned they had advanced at a toppling speed

And the trampling sound as of thunder came up

I turned again and they were struck dumb

By my lightning speed

It is easy to surprise a cow herd, indeed

Make eye contact is the first rule

Let them see you are not afraid

For they equate fear with walking away

Therefore do not give them any excuses

For their abuses of animal power

And sheer brawn over brains

Just like the Hawk

You've got to keep looking over your shoulder

Look them in the eye,

If you feel you're going to die

Stand your ground

Don't run

The cows are going home

Under the sun

And lay me down in pastures green

And the beasts of the field

Shall be your friend

Oh don't be a coward,

But be a cow herd

Stand up straight like a cowboy

Why do we never learn those skills in England?

Where arguably we have the greater chance of being

Attacked by livestock

Being a rambling nation

And having the majority of foot paths crossing

Through farming land?

Teach a British school boy how to lasso

Or how to holla at a cow

How to barter at a cattle auction

How to herd and how to gather

Oh give us a bovine education

Let us know our roots as a farming nation

Make us heed how to stop a stampede

Give us proof to contend with hoof

And know just how long to pale out the tether

make us cherish our boot leather

Blood in my eyes

 Blood in my eyes

It's a great disgrace

Blood in my eyes

And a guilty face

Blood on my hands

Like Cain and Abel

Blood on my feet

Under the table

Blood on the knife

Blood in the sky

Raining on me

I got blood in my eye

Take out the log from yours

Before you point out the stick in mine

Don't throw stones at a glass sky

Blood on my face

Blood on my hands

Can't wash the disgrace

Out of the lands

Blood in the hedgerows

Blood in the trees

Dripping like Eden

Dripping for me

All of it's even

All of it's free

Easy on the brown sauce

 Easy on the brown sauce,

Honey

Easy on the brown sauce, baby

Easy on the brown sauce mama

Easy on the brown sauce

Easy on the the brown sauce papa

Get it up on the ketch up

mama

Get it up on the table

Give me some of your vinegar honey

Put it out let me see the label

Easy on the brown sauce, daddy

Easy on the brown sauce

Oh another dollop of mayonaise baby

But easy on the brown sauce

Come on with your mustard honey

Put it on my plate again and again

Put it on the side, I'll have it with my pickle

Put it on the side of my plate

Easy on the brown sauce

Easy, easy, easy

I like my sauce easy

Easy on the brown sauce, daddy

Easy on the brown sauce

Put it on my sausage, nanny

Put it on my beans

Put on a burger, daddy

Or put it on my greens

You can mix your cheese with beans

You can mix lime and lemons even

Follow my recipe, then season

But go easy on the brown sauce

The Themepark of men and women

I went to the politically correct theme park

The theme was women

There was a hormonal roller coaster

Which I loved to ride on

And a log flume

But in this case we all rode on a giant penis that sailed

down the flume

Splashing its fluids over the side of the slide and

Then it came to an abrupt stop inside a giant anus

luckily it was padded and lots of giant red balloons

To cushion the impact

I feel these were probably the hemorrhoids

Some people were carrying on up the anal canal

On the giant penis, but I began to feel sick at that point

So I got off the ride and started to walk

My favourite experience was the haunted house

The entrance was shaped like a woman's vulva and we

walked between her giant legs, they bent

But had hinges on the knees and every now and then

The legs would extend right up and the whole house

Would rock

It was quite spooky and dark inside

There were cysts growing in fallopian tubes

But these were being lanced by Filipino men

And Collected by filipino women in baskets

Then sold at market to wealthy gentlemen in top hats

And coat tails wearing monocles

As we walked on I noticed the clitoris was shuddering,

And a boy was jumping up and down on the G spot and that made the whole house shake

Then the sounds of arousal and a woman's cries of orgasm would come reverberating

Through the halls and corridors

Next we came to an enormous Hall like a Cathedral Nave

This was the womb

Only it was a red curtained room

Only the curtains were organic, and ripe

And dripping with blood

Along the walls

Further on in glass cabinets were fetuses some dead and some alive

In various states of growth or decay

Every now and then an egg, like a gelatinous white globe

Would pop free from the curtained walls

It was like being in a theatre

Like an amphitheatre

And the audience could sit down

And watch on stage

As a flood of sperm ran down the aisles

And came on the stage

This was where the egg had fallen

A person dressed as a sperm

Looking like a giant tadpole would wrestle with another person - I guess who was the egg

Then all the sperm were trying it on,

But she kept beating them off

Finally one leapt on her and sort of wriggled inside

The other's costume and then it all went dark

The blood stopped dripping from the curtains

The slightly rancid, iron smell was washing away

Water began flowing down the curtains

They turned purple, then blue

Then yellow,

Then green

And plants started to grow

The stage was full of ferns and looked like a wild Rousseau painting

Suddenly bursting through the vibrant bush

was the star of the show

The baby, oh he danced and sang

Like in a musical

All sorts of songs from the womb

Like don't be lonesome tonight

He played Kenny G classics on the saxophone

And threw himself against the walls like a crash test dummy

Or hurled himself about on the trapeze like

A circus acrobat

The day they cut the corn

 They have cut the corn

It is like a field that's shorn

They have cut the corn

It's cut off and torn

And all the storks look

like cones or forks

They have cut the corn today

They have shorn the field

And forced it to kneel

And made a meal of me

It was horns and reels

It was thorns and keels

That brought me back from sea

And there are major ways

and major plans

And there are places where none could pass

And there were minor lists

And major courts

The day they cut the corn

There were homes that crumbled

And furrows that rumbled

And there were brows that fell low

There was earth that lifts

And birds off cliffs

The day they cut the corn

The day they cut the corn

The minor shifts

And Major lifts

The day they cut the corn

I was quite forlorn

The day they cut the corn

The day they cut the corn

A near kiss

And you let it miss

The day they cut the corn

The crows they shift

Like clouds of mist

The day they cut the corn

The day they cut the corn

Born not made

 You were born not made

Plastic man with a plastic spade digging his very own

Plastic grave

Plastic coffin

On a plastic earth

Lasts forever

But never gives birth

Burn proof bomb proof

Like a shot gun

To the heart

Exploding in the plastic sky

That rains its plastic pellet dearth

Made not born

Plastic babies

For he was born not made

Where is maternity in modernity

Always the instinct but never distinct

Like a Nubulae some way off

In outer space, blowing plastic bubbles

What shall I do?

Live the same life as you

Live out of a shoe

Or draw the same knife as you

Cut the same grass

Bend the same blade

Some people are born while others are made

Plastic birth, and plastic bottle

Plastic message, written while they throttle

The plastic Life that never stayed, life that was torn

Life

Born but not made

Someone is coming

Summon the maid

Turn up the volume

On sister slayed

I hold the perch, like a parrot in a church,

like a symphony played

Somethings are born, while others are made

Tell me the future, the one of the earth

Where some cuts have sutures

Like umbilical births

Sew up the uterus, and make it all cutaneous

Nothing has depth, except the walls of sound

Somewhere underground, subterraneous

Where waste is aloud, and all pollution is bound

I hold my breath, here comes plastic death

Some things are born while others are made

Plastic womb and plastic babies

crying where they laid

Plastic mothers in plastic pain

Plastic fathers out in the cold dark rain

Some people are born, while others are made

Don't you wax my surf board

Don't you wax my surf board

You can wax my legs, you can wax my lyric

You can even wax my moon or ear

Just leave my surf board alone

Oh I came home last night and she was waxing my car

In the drive

I told her to carry on like the doll you are

I said you can wax my turtle, you can wax my shoes

You can wax it purple you can wax them blue

But just before you do

Please be sure

Don't you wax my surf board

Leave it for me

I dropped by the tavern last Thursday night

There was a goat next to a chicken doing the foxtrot on top of the bar

I said I see you waxed the dance floor

She said sure

And you waxed the door

Yep sure I did hun

But look what you've done

In the glint of the last rays of sun

I saw three, two, one, four

You've waxed my surfboard

I told you, you can wax your hair

You can wax my candle

Even wax the waning vandal

But don't you Vidal Sassoon my uncle

Don't you wax my big balloon

Oh wax my knob and wax my Bob, wax my kitchen

And wax my hob, but be sure to leave one job

Just don't you wax my surfboard love

This is England

The sheep are lying down now

Resting under the oak

And it is so English and free

And there is peace on the hillside

And in the valley

And whenever you hear the sally of the guns

It is not for anyone but the nuns

Who are shooting into heaven above

And firing out their eternal love

For this is England in a green, green land

This is England in a blue, blue time

This is England everyday of our lives

It is like folded ecstasy,

Folding and unfolding in infinity

It is unravelled plentitude

and every kind of habitude

The crows know it's free

and they are so black

And the ravens in the trees

And the buzzards they attack

And the knights round the table

They talk of their king

But that was all such a long time ago

For this is England

This is England

It is so corrupt with corrosion

Finally earning its place

In the world

This is England, this is England

The smell of the cold

And the hawthorn trees

This is England

The collaged beaches

And the brownfields down to the sea

You can see it in the finer details

of a Turner painting

While it is smeared about like Colman's mustard

Upon the ruins of the grating

This is England in our time

This is England

Thistles and pines

Broken horses and broken cows

Oh they are walking not straight

And all the houses of broken vows

It is there now

This is England following the plough

Making all furrows

All the burrows inside ourselves

This is, this is England in the hillside

Where the rabbits are all mating, none have to decide

This is England and they're all on benefits

but that is good for the government

This is England in the Spring time

It is England in the Autumn time

This is England every noon and afternoon

And in the morning, and it is when you awake

for the sake of love

This is England and we can't go wrong

As long as we keep on singing our English song

This England I am robbed by you

And all the white van men in the afternoon

This is England and there are no voices

But the black and white choirs

Singing their different tunes.

Take me to the bridge

Take me to the bridge of understanding

Take me to the bridge of your dreams

Take me to the bridge of the foregrounding

Take me to the bridge of your streams

Take me to the edge of forever

Take me to the limit of your tether

Take me to the most outfar reaches

Take me to your beaches

I will carry on forever

In the airy bounds above

Take me to the bridge of understanding

Take me to the bridge of your love

There are many rivers beneath us

And so much water has passed between us

There are so many valleys below us

And many mountains above

Take me to the bridge of understanding

Take me to the bridge of your love

I need to find a way to cross

To cross the river between us

There must be more than I can see

There must be more that I can trust

Take me to the bridge of understanding

Take me to the bridge of your love

Travelling tears

 Hear that steam whistle blowing

Over the hills and through the wind

Hear it blowing for you and for him

Hear it blowing for you and for him

And it will blow through the leaves and through the trees

And it will blow through the cobweb of the years

And it will shunt up the tracks ever going

And it will be like the travelling tears

It will ever go from midnight til the morning

And blow through the hills and trees

And yes you can hear that steam train blow out its warning

For it's crying those travelling tears

And sometimes joy in the joining of two people

Sometimes force through the course of the years

Sometimes loss in the pain of separation

Oh they're departing with travelling tears

In the heat in the hour of conversation

They can speak on the platform standing near

And if you wait there for me at the station

You'll be crying those travelling tears

Yes you can hear the steam train blow out its warning

It is a hoot, a toot through the years

It says decide on your final destination

Or you'll feel those travelling tears

Or you'll shed those travelling tears

In the truth of the pale last question

You can ask me about all my fears

Well I'll know when you meet me at the station

You will cry those travelling tears

You will cry those travelling tears

Skin in the game

 Skin in the game,

Oh skin in the game

It's all the same when you've got skin in the game

You've got to admit, you've got to have skin in the game

Drive off a cliff, don't be tight lipped

Let the hips kiss, it's so far from this

You've got to admit

You've got to have skin in the game

Oh the shame

There's no one to blame

None who can name

One single cuplprit who can even claim

They stood on the summit

and sung it

Or from the pulpit they'd plummet

You know it's a shame

But you've got to have skin in the game

Take or leave it, cut it and sleave it,

Come from the fore or the rear,

Cut off a toe or slice off an ear

It is sheer hypocrisy to me

Leave it on the butcher's table

Maybe Cane and Abel,

Leave a trace of blood,

Like Hansel and Gretel through the mud,

You know it's a shame but you've got to have

Skin in the game, or so they claim

Make the sunrise, wear clothes of disguise

Hide the sun's rays behind rainy days

It shouldn't take long

To sing on your song of praise,

In many ways

Fire engine bell ringing out insane

They're burning down the tower of Babylon's great name

You know I can hear them say

You've got to have skin in the game

Oh it don't mean a thing, if you don't got that ring

You've got to have skin in the game

Squirrel

 Oh Squirrel who cares

If your nuts freeze

If they're frosty cones

And ice-cream pears

Nobody cares, look after number one son

Climb your bat infested tree

And stick it to the woodpecker

Who is drilling in your ear

Like a mad dentist

Slash and burn, slash and burn

The acorn is born

From your forgetfulness

Tree planter, Robin chanter

In the tree top's highest reach

Screech, and chirp, and pepper in wood pecker rhyme

No, screwdriver tongue

But the bells have sung and hung out

To dry in your silver squirrel sky

Half life of your care

 Won't you tell me

How you're spinning

In the radioactive isotope there

Won't you tell me, the half life of your care, oh yeah

Is it 50, is it 40 ,

Is it around 20:20

What do you need? And what do you you dare, oh yeah

In the foreground

In the fairground

In the far sound from somewhere

Won't you tell me, the half life of your care?

How long will it take for me to decay

Like a jailbird, like a mocking jay

In the forest, in the thickest wood

Or neighbourhood

See diffraction like an x-ray

See the cathode tube and particle spray

In the foreground television there, back in the day

And the white noise, and the signal,

Getting lost in the Mendip hills

Give me microwave, give me ultrasonic care, oh yeah

In the photograph, of exposure

I can see I'm getting older,

Who will still be there?

I'll give you guesses, maybe two or three

Show you infinity, and eternity

But just show me you will still be there

Oh you can tell me, probabilities

You juggle the uncertainties

Just hold my hand, if I despair

Firefly, burning in the night

Photons flying at the speed of light

When Time is sidewise

Train carriage doesn't look so bare

I try to hold you but I'm lost now

In the spinning, forgetting everything

Entropy and chaos, Magnetic resonance

Bring me back into the foreground

I can touch you on the shoulder

Radiotherapist, radiographer

Tell me what is the half life of your care?

Shepton on Show

Behind the scrape the hotel slates

Fall from the roof that stand up late

Into the scoffs of hate and rebuke

The pavements soft from puddles of puke

And Shepton stands above it all

The show of hands is ready to fall

But play your cards right late at night

See the lands of firelight

Where burning men and women fight

Like flames of candles flicker in plight

Shepton, Shepton on show

Shepton, Shepton on show

The windows full of birds and bees

And Coloured snow and worms that seize

The books they throw at the libraries

And the jokes they tell in the reggae-ease

Of Shepton, Shepton on Show

Behind the handpicked frieze

The bright rainbow is covered in sleaze

And thoughts which show the summer's ease

No greased elbow or lock-jawed keys

So cling to the clinker of unspoken word

Fly away like a jailbird

And say what you say without being heard

It's a world away from castle and sword

Shepton, Shepton on show

Sniffing sponges

You said to me this what you are

Don't be a shrew when you're a shining star

You need not fear for where you are

You are in Shepton Mallet

Don't sniff my sponge or make my clunge

Oh so final in accounting

There are no puns, to rhyme with guns

Or even out of banking

Do not make use of goats or sheep

Don't sniff around the border

There no ships that sail beneath

The out of way recorders

Don't sniff my sponge you say to me

Don't sniff my colour on TV

You can taste salt or umami

But don't you sniff the sponge of me

I care not for your crowing tongue

You lisp like Mister slow income

You hear me go, but you don't know bum

I fear you sniff my sponges

Don't clean up so you can see glowing

surfaces and hunches

Oh windy-winding hingey-grinding

Out of all expenses

I see you go down on the snow

And leave your foot print in clunches

You make such fantastic curries

That you eat as your lunches

When we are there the snow does fall

And under foot it crunches

But there are so few rhymes to rhyme

With you and sniffing sponges

I should go back, I should not stay

I should get flak, but not I'm gay

For being what I am and say

You keep on sniffing sponges

So be a good boy now and go

Out on your own in bunches

Oh follow your nose, just like god knows

But don't go sniffing sponges

There are so many words to rhyme

With house and horse and lunches

But so few now we must admit

Which rhyme with sniffing sponges

The Plastic surgeon's BBQ

 At the plastic surgeon's barbeque

On the 19th of November

I had to attend the bash

There were supermodels and women who waddled

Because their pockets were so filled with cash

There were hips which lied

And lips which never told the truth

Because they hid under the botox lid

And fake booby traps were the proof

As I wandered around the congregation

Who had gathered round the grill

The band were playing Radio head

And sounding kind of shrill

And the heat of the coals was scolding

And the sausages sizzled and fried

And the fat burnt down into the fire

Like from a burnt sacrifice

Who are the Gods you worship?

I asked after a while

But they turned to me and pointed to false idols

Standing in a magazine Style

Kournety Love, and Kurt Cobain,

And garage and of grunge

And all those Pops stars who made their names

After taking somekind of plunge

But they were never fake I said

Never plastic, though man made

They were the real thing like a choir that sings

Carols on Christmas Day

But in their expression I could see no understanding there

Their faces were taut like tennis rackets brought

Down on the ball to bear

Hard and like a lion

Rearranged like a puzzle

Lumps that began to shift

As a harness around a dog's muzzle

You see the plastic surgeon's bbq had begun

To destroy his own wax works,

And slowly they were all melting

As a candle does in a church

And the next time I turned they had become

Just pools of melting silcone

With some bones, that shone alone

Which attracted the dog's attention

And the plastic surgeon was on his knees

Thinking of his own destruction

And how would his customers ever pay the bills

On their own reconstruction

Never speak of this he said

For this is a tale of the living dead

Who wished for correction on what was fed them

Through false images on internet or television

That pool there was an instagram influencer

And her over there was a lottery winner

And he was a fat cat who wanted to be thinner

But it was all to no avail

For this is living dead told in a moral tale

Don't get too close to the flame

For like the moth you will

Burn

See their ashes and you'll learn

The true price of celebrity's fame

I asked him if the sausages were burnt

He put them in a bap and I said haven't you learnt

You need health and safety at an event like this

He said his fire officer had fallen off a cliff

I said what a faux par, no he was driving a car

And he was a crash test dummy

I said is everyone around you fake today?

Well I thought it couldn't hurt it was my own birthday

I invited them here and now here they'll stay

Buried under the patio

Well at that I decided to take my leave

He told me not to wear my heart on my sleeve

I said it was in the right place and he

Offered me some plastic surgery

Down at St Aldhelm's well

And if you want a land of peace then you can tell

I will meet you down at St Aldhelm's well

If you have forgotten Forget-me-nots or the chimes of Bluebells

Then come meet me down at St Aldhelm's well

If you want the sound of choirs or the toll of church bells

Then you'll find them down at St Aldhelm's well

And the inhabitants of the village there happily they dwell

For they built their homes by St Aldhelm's well

And they sow the fields, gather yields and peas they shell

As they live their lives out by St Aldhelm's well

And the trees bear fruit and the livestock they can sell

All because of the waters at St Aldhelm's well

And it springs up from the hill and runs down in the dell

As the trees take their fill from St Aldhelm's well

They lack not for lumber for trees grow in great number

And their strong trunks they can fell

As they grow thick and fast, just like ships' masts

And you can find them down at St Aldhelm's well

None are diminished after the day's toils are finished

None feel oppressed by evil or fear hell

For they pour water from their jugs and they fill their cups and mugs

And all drink deep down at St Aldhelm's well

Tuesday 12 October 2021

Around St Aldhelm's well

The creatures on the church tower

Running round and round

Protecting the inside from the powers that surround

No evil shall not step inside and all shall beware

To fear God in his house, to come with mortal care

The arrogant shall not be given passage there

Or the wicked or conceited done down by their own care

Only the humble shall have their pass

And all this will not be a grumble of the past

Oh the gargoyle and the dragon in the mouth of the lion

As they reach up out of pits where the fires are besieged

And the unbaptized child who is dragged down into hell

Oh be fearful of the priors around St Aldhelm's well

Come stake your claim in leaves and fallen human souls

And don't take what you don't believe or what you can't control

You shall know the fires if you can't make it whole

Oh come see the priors around St Aldhelm's well

He walked for many hours trying to find his chair

A throne of all God's powers, a throne that is just there

And this is how it came about, it came about in prayer

Never waking time, but in seasons of care

And they all want a water wheel out of their care

Cos it springs up for the villagers, it springs up out there

And yes they brought it to our place, they brought it to our home

When the water came face to face with the enemies of Rome

And they brought it from the land unto the ferned hill

And it sprung up out of hand into St Aldhelm's well

Oh how can you see this place of fettered times

You walk inside the ancient hills and under the sweet sunshine

In the shadows of the ancient ones, by the shadow of the church

Overgrown by many trees and plants that holds its perch

Hold me in your arms St Aldhelm's well

And bring me water charms and quench the fires of hell

Will you drink? Will you come to me? And fetch me sweet liberty

And falling from heaven like rain into the sea

Lucy

I said to Lucy -"Can you make it clear?"

Cos I don't understand quite what I hear

Tell me straight was I early or late?

Lucy said "Let me elucidate"

"You were late, you were late, late as hate

Late as love at love's gate

You were late, you were late!

No need to contemplate

You were late in your love for this

Lucy date

I said to Lucy, I'm just so wrong,

I'm so sorry that I wrote this song

"You should have come to me before

You shouldn't have waited outside my door"

Oh Elucidate, a Lucy date, e Lucy date to me

Lucy make it clear, Lucy make me see

That it was just a loose date for me

There were wrongs and there were rights

And there were songs and there were fights

And Lucy and I, we couldn't get on

So we went our separate ways, on

a long cold Wednesday

Long ago

The very next day we got back together

I wrote her a song and she wrote me a letter

She said to me why do you want to be free

when you could be with me?

I said Lucy, oh Lucy can't you see oh Lucy

It was all just too late, now Lucy let me elucidate

Lucy yes or Lucy no, oh Lucy come and Lucy go

Lucy's loose as a free bird crow

That's flying across the sky I know

Oh Lucy, why don't you come to me,

And we'll be

so damn good ,well just like Robin Hood

When there is nothing to fear or to hate

Oh Lucy just elucidate

Ghost Train

 Ghost train, ghost train

rumbling down the tracks

On the old green ivy way

And the tunnel that was closed

and now is so black

I saw the ghost train

Ghost riding all the way

I will ride on that ghost train

From the past

I will ride on that ghost train

The very, very last

I will ride on the ghost train

Going to the future

I will ride through the valley

following the suture

Ghost train, ghost train

Coming down the tracks

There hasn't been a train down here

For so many years back

Oh abandoned and forgotten

The roads where summer lacks

Ghost train, ghost train coming out the black

Coming out from death, rising up like Laszarus

Opening out his breath and having one last look

Here we are coming whistling down the line

Ghost train's a humming, rumbling so fine

Ghost train, ghost train coming down the tracks

Anywhere you see it, it is out the black

Looking out for life, second one after death

There must be life after closure, we must breathe another breath

Ghost train, ghost train coming up for me

Riding on the ghost train number 1963

Anyone you ask, remembers much the past

They were wearing their mask, shovelling the coal

Burning up the fires, make those boilers hum

Come open up the furnace see the embers tongue

Steam through the tunnel, whistle out your fame

Ghost train coming, ghost train remember your name

1963 boys, 1963 the year they closed the tunnel down

The last year we were free

But we the railway workers are coming back to tea

Ghost train, is coming, coming back to me

Ghost train, ghost train coming down the line

Ghost train, ghost train is it your track or mine?

I'm going to jump out of your way

I'm gonna jump on board, we're waiting for the

Great Concorde

Friday 8 October 2021

while you were working

 While you were working

I have been dancing

I have been twirling and prancing around

While your focus has been

On lines that are strained

While your eyes have been drained of tears

And rhymes

And peering through legal loop holes

I have been pirouetting in the chaos of sound

I have been trying to

create order

I have been forming my body a new

In lines and in sinews

As strong as the law

The body of the law

The law of the body

I've been following it to the letter

Breaking no bone

Offending no tendon

Standing on my toe

To attention

All of this while you've been lugging chimney flumes

And stoves and heavy logs

slogging

I have been in a magical realm

of Princesses, swans and unicorns

Love catch 22

They want to catch me

In their decoy trap

They want to hold me

Safely off the map

I am wanted by the everyman

Wanted by the league

Wanted by the ferryman

Who just wants me to leave

Wanted by the school master

In the grand school hall

Wanted by disaster,

When calamity calls

And I have given all I've wanted

And wanted more than I took

And read up on the haunted house

In your horror book

I have never wanted much

Just the warmth of your touch

Never wanted more

But perhaps it wasn't enough

And who now will want me?

But that I wind up dead

With a bullet in my back

And one more in my head

Who now will want me

But for a sordid power plot

One where law has acted

And I have got what I got

Who can contain their words

Like a humming from a hive

Oh yes I'm wanted well my lords

I'm wanted dead or alive

And I hold to ransom

All the people of my age

Who for a moment transformed

Like actors on a stage

Well I bit the bullet

Bit the bullet of love

And I chewed and I pulled it

But it was never enough

And it hit me in the stomach

I caught it in my gut

Oh I was down and hung it

Like a trophy in a hut

open ended

What is it that you can grant me?

Do you have the power above?

What is it that you want from me?

My holiness or eternal love?

Well mater it's pretanatural

Well vater it doesn't matter

Well husband I am housebound

And Wife you have my life

I didn't mean that you say to me

When we have got our wires crossed

And why don't you sail out to sea

Where you'll be in the four winds tossed

And how can you answer me like

You were talking to my ghost

And how can you reprimand me

Like a sergeant at arms for leaving his post?

I came to you with my arms open

And you took me in like I was an orphan

But promise me this don't leave me alone

In the night of terror forms shift

Like that planet around its axis

Thwarted

I am thwarted yes I'm thwarted

Every single day

I am thwarted, yes I'm thwarted

In every single way

Don't you queer my pitch

I want to play

I cavorted, and I sported

Oh just wanted to play

But I am thwarted, yes

I'm thwarted

in every single way

Love Letters

 From A to B

Dear B I have always cared about you, but you know you are basically too close for comfort

I need some distance, please give me some space

A to Z

You have always had my heart, all the letters we are apart

Nothing could move me better, than the sound of your letter

B to C

Don't try to own me C

Your Body mass index is G

Act your age and not your shoe size B

You always put body before brain

Always the corpus and never the vein

O to K

I guess you could have had a point when you said let's just forget the whole thing

If it's OK by you, it's OK by me K

You kick me and I gawp, what you need is a sport, I'm not your football

Stop trying to score goals with my soul

I am empty without you K, do write back quickly, OK?

W to E

If I were a winged bird, I'd fly to your nest of eggs

And sit and roost upon you, make you feel my woolly legs

But what I am is double V I'm two times the woman

I used to be, I'm Venus of two minds, like twin sisters

But We always will love Mister E

U to S

We must meet up the two of us it has been too long

Too much C in the way, a long C I mean not your

Common or garden channel

It has been like a light age, full of stars and planets

Uranus for instance, was one of the places we'd meet

But now that social distance has increased

we'd be lucky to meet on Pluto

Still hope is not lost while we are instantaneous

We sure are entangled the two of US

Bit coin Millionaire

 Bit coin Millionaire

He was a bit coin billionaire

He drove round in a Ferrari

And showed off his great flair

Bitcoin millionaire

Bitcoin millionaire

Millions in the bank, thousand more to spare

Driving around in his Subaru impresso

Like he hasn't any cares

He was a bitcoin million

He'sgot Millions in the bonds

And thousands everywhere

He's got coins in white paper

That don't even mean a thing

He's a bit coin, he's a bit coin king

And everything he has is in a bubble that will burst

Come the good and bad, come the hunger or thirst

Whatever you have will soon turn to dust

And its vapour rise into thin air

He's a bit coin millionaire

But life is so fickle

And the markets go into thin air

Bit coins like white butterflies fly up

The gambler will tell you earnestly

That his scheme will never fail

But you know so truthfully the end of that tale

There are always the losing streaks, and as many times he wins

He will lose a packet and you'll be left holding the string

Now who can tie up all of these loose ends

Like a spaghetti junction you can get lost round the bends

And twists and turns of a gambler's world you cannot trust his word

For nothing is just quite so absurd as the lines you've heard

Sometimes he is on an up and next he's on a low

Depends upon which current he's riding on in the sky of snow

Where he tries to catch the snow flakes

Oh so delicate in his hands

But they melt just like the milk on cornflakes

He is a self-made snowman

Will the sun's strong heat melt away his plans

As coins go slipping through his fingers

Just like melt water through his hot hands

The ghost of Christmas past or Brexit's Monster

 There'll be pigs in blankets

huddling cold meat in the street

And chlorinated chicken getting cold chicken feet

The response has been paltry poultry and foul Fowl

And it's fair game for the pheasants

Who follow the plough

And furlongs of furloughs have run the furrows low

As the mechanized industry is on the hill's brow

Like a silouhette of a monster in the dawn's early glow

Well its Brexit's monster now

What the working class wanted were better wages

To get the jobs back that they felt were their heritage

But what they have got are empty shelves and vacancies

Which none of them will fill for they've run out of sympathies

The jobs don't pay high enough they say with disdain

Then doctor Brexit comes at them again and again

This is independent Britain, this your birth right's claim

But who will do the work is Dr Brexit's Monster

He's mean and he's stiff, he's wonky and lacks self control

But his bionic limbs and till fields for vegetables

He can plough furrows, and he can glean lands

And he doesn't mind getting dirt on his hands

Oh sure he's an android, but what did you expect?

From the next generation of workers after Brexit

Few British workers could compete with European toll

And therefore our farming will be under mechanized control

They wanted higher wages, what they got was higher prices

of Food, fuel, electricity and gas in their houses

And if they can get to work at all

They can barely afford their utility bill

Oh it's the revenge of Brexit's monster

Well we treated him like he was a fool,

Writhing around in a small gene pool

With recruitment sharks hanging around his school

Yes he's an office clerk because he don't work with tools

He's got a mental age of 3 but he's learning fast

From his AI brain and his hardwired heart

And his mother board's fried and his fatherland

Smells of fart

Oh he's Brexit's monster

Friday 1 October 2021

It was nothing urgent

 It was nothing urgent

Not something I really meant for you to know

You're probably too busy

So let's get on with the show

It was nothing urgent

Don't mind me if I say

Hello how are you?, please get on with your day

Everyone's in a panic

Like there's a powder keg below their feet

And they're running like pandas

Black and white down the street

They must do their shopping

They must fight the other one

It is like a parade

Of the nuclear mum

And everyone is rushing

Like the nuclear family might explode

Like if you aren't on their side

You need to get out of the road

But can't you see it is a fever

Of the damned lost of self-control

Everyone swimming in a hellish river

Like doomed fish in a shoal

And the whale is coming

Its mouth is open wide

It will swallow them all up

Like it swallows their pride

It was nothing urgent

I just called to let you know

That we need a new government

One that will let the country grow
