This summer sun

I recall the sun before it went down

Burning brightest

Like a jewel in the crown

I recall the orchard, and the Bristol Down

Oh the Summer sun, just before it goes down

And all the memories of forgotten elephants

Who sit in rooms

Trying to remember

And yet they have nothing to regret

No there's nothing to regret

When you can forget

I remember dances

And halls

By the sea

And taking chances

Like glances of infinity

And in those eyes that seem to stretch

On to forever

I got lost in eternity

Oh now I can remember

And certain sun's faces

And glances in halves

The King or the aces

Turn up like the cards

And I can remember

I took a gamble on you

Your eyes were the dice

And you rolled them true

Double sixes a pair

Of diamonds shone true

Oh I can remember

The chance taken on you

Yes I'll never play that hand again

Not the same anyway

The tables have turned

The players gone away

And I have learned

To remember it's true

That the sun will burn brighter

When the days nearly through

For there's nothing but living

And loving to do

So come hug me tighter

For I'm swimming to you

Late developer

 I was a late developer

Slow to cotton on

But as I programmed in the night

I knew my button song

Turn it off, turn it on

The genes which do dictate

Whether a person will

Develop early or late

Magma, Dogma, Mama Dog

 I guess it wasn't enough

You tried to paper over the living

Crust

But it was always changing

Pulled by the heart's core

The magma of our blood

Kept coming up for more

Oh is the world enough?

It isn't

For this love to never leave us alone

Like a wound

That will never heal

Like the cut in the mouth

You tried to paper over the crust of the earth

With your newspaper headlines

Shouting what it is worth

Or what it is not,

This is love, and the world

isn't enough

The nameless sky

I saw you in the pennies ways

And half a cup of tea

and balderdash and many days

Between the sky and ski

And thought it left me like a jar

Empty of the jam

Looking out Into the sky

Asking who I am

Love it was a flightless bird

Oh but love did light the way

From corridors too absurd

To block or to give way

More than morning

Morose and mourning

Hit the qualities of shade

That all these starving darling starlings

Could now eat what man had made

But God shook the totem poles

Of power and of play

And took dark towers where wise men cower

And the good may hide away

And he felled with axes

The tree of life he made

For unless it grows with taxes

Then money collecting never pays

I fought my way to Eden

I fought til kingdom came

And all dark storms did weaken

In the coming of brighter names

And when the words were spoken

Then spells they fell like flames

And landed upon the heads of those

Who chose life instead of fame

I kissed the hand of Jesus

And the 12 apostles' shame

Which one of them did laud it over

Him with such a claim?

That all God's earth was kingdom

And the King he shall reclaim

His right seat at throne of power

And all shall know his name

Windows

well I used to think I had purpose

That gave me reason or rhyme

I used to think I could purchase

All I could buy of your time

But now it all seems so worthless

Just like a river of slime

Oh youth is all out to hurt us cos

I'm starting to run out of time

Nothing means what it says and

Nothing really is crime

When justice is a burnt olive branch

I keep getting handed time after time

Might it is like a sand castle

That the sea washes away in its tides

And Power is like a toy sail ship

That's adrift down the river or rhine

Come show me back to my own lands

I don't want to die on this hill

Many heroes have come here before us

And I've no doubt many more will

There is no vacuum between us

Except the one that our silence would kill

Oh I'm running in circles and the window cleaners

Can't wipe the stain from the sill

Beat the clock

I was going to a fancy-dress party dressed as an egg timer

Then another friend said

We'd better start running if we we want to get there on time

I said who ever heard of an egg timer getting to a party on time

And she said it isn't cool is it?

I said no, now set me.

Alright she said and gave me a turn

We better start running she said

I've got calories to burn

So as I was running down a dark alley

A mugger stopped me and asked

Could I take his mugshot

I said it wasn't my cup of tea

And anyway I was hot

He said you're boiling mate, I think you're burning up

In fact I think you have a temperature

I said we are trying to beat the clock

He said let me help you and gave me a

clock round the ear

I said I think you've cracked it

He said I think you're shell shocked

Well this other mugger then appeared

I said oh here's your brother from another mugger

He said no that's just my tea bag friend

I said well I guessed that should do it

I can see how this story  will end

No, no he said, I think you've misunderstood

We are on are way to the same party

But we got lost in the neighbourhood

So we ran on together, down blind alleys and

Dead ends

But finally we came to the right cul-de-sac

they like to call daggers bends

I could the point they were trying to make

With a name like that it offends

And the wolf pack were glaring out their windows

Like they were hungry to make friends

Well I fought them tooth and claw

And finally we made it to the front door

Where the part was in full swing

Come on let's go in you said

But I haven't brought anything

Look you got here on time

And that isn't a crime

Not until your egg timer rings

I can make it through

 I can make it through

If I'm drunk on you,

I can make it through to the end

Yes and in the little hut

Somewhere in the desert

I was hauled up

Like an outlaw

And you came to see me,

But all you saw

Was a vision of a ghost of a friend

Oh I can make it through

If I'm drunk on you

Yes I can make it through till the end

And if you close the door

Or be my Jackdaw

I'll invite you in as my friend

Don't spare me now, sparrow

I have only a cow

I'll have only a scowl for your owl

Who comes looking, and asking who's who

Well I can't make sense round the bend

But I'll make it through in the end

A good time to write?

Now is a good time to write

The doors of the dawn are shut tight

And night's behind

The curtain and blind

Oh now is a good time to write

I thought I had given a fright

To myself in the depths of the night

But this early flight

Like a bird in the sights

Drops as a hammer of might

Give me a slice of the moon

The chances of getting there soon

Are bleeding away

For a year and a day

I'm on my ass like a baboon

What is there to write but night night

Drunk on you

I can't get drunk on champagne

Vermouth and whisky they don't numb the pain

No but I'm a little tipsy, yes I can get a little frisky

Yes I can only get drunk on you

Powder keg and dynamite,

might blow up the houses of Parliament tonight

TNT and Semtex,

are gonna send some souls to cemeteries I bet,

But if I really want to blow my brain

I take a shot of you in my veins

I can only get drunk on you

Oh life and all its meanings

Can send some philosophers gleaning

In the fields of knowledge for their answers

Well Aristotle and Plato, with a bottle and play though

Can't give any answers more true

Than I'm only happy when I'm drunk on you

Bearly credible

While you were gone a bear came into the room

Compartment?

Yes

Overhead

The Bristol suspension bridge

But in France

Crossing the channel

Or the Severn

? And a bear you say?

Yes

I had to clean the compartments

That was my job

On a venicular railway

Funicular

I said? She said yea, or nay

My pronunciation was off

Ven- like a vein I said? or Fun- like a funnel?

The debate never did get resolved because there was the bear

A Polar Bear? Yeah well

It could have been brown

A brown bear there in the town?

In this very room I had to tame it and play

And even then I never turned my back on it,

Like they say

But all of a sudden another one came

Two bears! Yeah! I couldn't believe it and this other one taught the other to stand

He whom I had tamed and there he was as I was ruffling his mane

He stand taller than I and growled

Unlike a performing bear

This bear was wild

But it made me mad too

For all that care I had given to you, I said

And this is how you repay me! My shoulders grew

And the hair on the back of my neck was on end

And the bear cowered in the end

Then I felt bad to have dominated him so

But the alternative would surely have meant my being mauled by two

From head to toe

I left that job cleaning this the gondalas that run on the ski lift across the Bristol Channel

Night dreams

 Night Owl outside my window

Some friend or other a

photographer -yeah he was watching

He said look, A loud hoot,

Then across the road in the trees

A sight I could hardly believe

An Enormous Owl with an orange chest

Swooping down beside the railway tracks

And behind a wall

But this fellow had a belly on him

Like he had eat more than just mice

Then I saw

He was more man than owl

That wasn't nice

He had spent so long awake in the nights

He had turned into one who hunts

What did he eat this Night Owl?

Little kids in their beds

Or stray drunkards walking home?

picking them apart skin and bone

And imagine the size of his enormous pellets

They would drop like bombs

upon Shepton Mallet

The Owlman of Mallet

Night market

 Outside my window

There are Owl men

And Snail women who go wandering

And Hedgehog boys who skate their skateboards

And kick stones

And Badgermen fully grown

Like bears

Like wolverines

Running down the road

And the Seagull wives are squawking from the roof tops

And they are all going to the night market

Where everything is sold

And it's a dangerous town at night

You have to watch yourselves

In case the NightOwlmen catch you

And they won't show you no small mercies

But rip you bone from bone

But that's only under the trees

Don't go there alone

Otherwise

Most can be reasonable

Especially if they smell a bargain

A little more gruff at night

I'll grant you, not what you're used to?

Well, yeah

In the day they are friendlier

But at night it is more dog eat dog

The difference is they aren't afraid to show it

Fewer lies, you can't hide it at night

Your eyes, I mean they blaze and everyone can tell a false speaker

So don't ever try to fake it or you're dead

Just remember the rules of the night market

And you'll be fine

My love is skin deep

 Skin deep

Deep they say

My love is only skin deep

In capillaries and veins

And the skin fat

In butterflies and brains

And the shin chat that comes

From talking to your legs for too long

My love is body

Bone to bone, everybody,

Anybody

God I love a body

Who's body, yours or his or hers

Anything man, just pass the can

Love doesn't mind

It is kind or rather cruel

It is only skin deep

When you sleep, that's all

The nick of time

 I was on my way

On my way down

I had no words to say

Booted out of town

But I met you, just as the clock chimed

Yes you found me just in the nick of time

I was caught between the devil and the blue,

Oh I was nearly drowned

But you reached out a hand

And you took mine

And then I knew

Just like a king is crowned

That I met you just in the nick of time

Oh the jokes they do

Come from all around

And they make me feel

Like some kind of clown

But then I saw you, and a silence fell

And my movements became like a mime

I didn't need words because you could always tell

That when I met you it was just in the nick of time

Mr Landlord

 Oh Mr Landlord

Can you tell the way I must go

Oh Mr Landlord,

Can you tell me the way home?

I've been wandering this old world like a Spaniard

Oh On a Galleon in search of my gold

But now Mr Landlord

I can't buy back the home that I sold

Oh Mr Landlord, shall I keep on my journey so bold

With all that I have shown you, do you believe

All you've been told?

There must be a time of my returning

There must be an hour that comes

And Oh I can't wait in the burning

In the heat of the day in the sun

Oh Mr Landlord, will you give me back

All that I am owed?

Or will I have to keep searching

Down that long lonesome road?

Carry a torch

Tell me do you still carry a torch

for her?

Do you wait under the porch for her

Thinking hot thoughts that would scorch for her

Tell me do you still carry a torch for?

Well the lights went off and it all went dark

When you let go of my hand in the park

I thought you'd be back

But it soon all turned black

Except I still carry torch

And it lights my way, I mean until

the day brings some light into my life

Oh and it can seem grey, to think love never pays

But who knows what is wrong and what's right?

Do you still carry a torch for her?

Will you run the marathon sport for her?

Running on empty as the hope it grows plenty

Out in the barrels of night

Out where I search with my torch light

Real time Alsatian Support

 Real time Alsatian support

Alsatian on telephones ready to answer any of your question

So why not use your dog and bone and give them a phone?

Sometimes it can be hard to talk to a chat bot, but even harder with a real human being, so why not try an Alsatian?

Many of our Alsatians are fully trained operators and only very few are unlicensed rogues so come on get dialing....

Government of Love

Oh you could be the next prime minister of my heart

You're the elected officials of the consciousness of love

And love is a policy which must tow the party line

Oh that thin thread between your heart and mine

Come muster your support, get the backings in the commons

Let the MPs of your Aorta call out in the chambers of belongings

And if you lost your heart in this election well why not try again

There will be another one coming and you'll be in the running my friend

I wrote down my constitution on the tissue paper of a lung

And blew it up like a balloon, so all the letters sung

And so enlarged was my chest, so courageous was my heart

But devious dealings and cowardice brought down my only art

For love is the exhibition, the portrait or the bust

Ex-rulers of love's country in a museum of lust

And sickness in love's hospitals where I spent my rest

Convalescing in love's company, or perhaps only its ghostliness

I sorted out my passport so I could cross love's borders

I had to escape my impasse, with my knights hauled up in corners

And their horses kicking around in one horse towns,

where none could find a drink,

well this town ain't big enough for the both of us

What the hell else did you think?

Love was what it ought to be, oh so long ago,

Just a wisp in the willows, just a twang of the bow

And yet it turned into a mist

That seeped amongst the shadows

And our boats they broke through the whiteness

On the way to marshy gallows

Up against it

You know we're up against it

And our backs are against the wall

Oh all the tribes of Egypt

They are plotting out our fall

But we will yet be victorious

Oh I can hear that clarion call

And the angels sing in chorus

As on the battlements we stand tall

Yes we are up against

But you know we must dig deep

Under the skin, to the guts where in

Our reserves of courage sleep

We must awaken the lion

And go roaring into the fight

For when you are up against it

There can be no escape or flight

Yes we must tough it out my friends

And wave our standards high

And let the banners of our armies

Unfurl and in the cross winds fly

We must meet our enemy

And we must knuckle down

And when we hear the speech of Henry

We will fight for country and crown

When the chips are down

 Will you still love me

When the chips are down

Oh the trees are now green,

But as I have seen, soon they will turn brown

So what I want to know is,

will you still love me

When the chips are down

I heard from the owl that it is night right now

And the sun it has gone down

Well more than that prayer or feather of your care

Will you still love me

When the chips are down?

When the chips fall down boys

When the chips fall down

I'll pick you up

And set your crown

When the chips fall down

And out beyond the steaming morning

And the Church bell's chime

The storm that brews, it calls a warning

Of a hard and trying time

Will you come to me in my hour of darkness

Will you come to me and say

All the things good and bad in bargaining

When the chips are down?

Prime numbers

Now, I'm not saying it is special

And I'm not saying it is fair

But just bear with me like heavy metal

When I say that you should care

I can walk, thank the Lord Jesus

I can walk at last

It has been a slow train coming,

And I didn't think it would pass

But with your blessing I can feel it like a weight lifted from my spine

I can walk without my spiders

I can walk my own true line

There were many who were my detractors

Some bad and also some kind

But they all served to me as reminders  of

What might happen if I didn't shine

So take back your protractors and calculators

Leave me the numbers of prime

I will divide each by themselves and then leave them

One at a bloody time

Prime numbers are much like my lovers

They cannot be counted nor divided

Except by themselves

And even the elves knew they

Were having a good time

Night owl

Night owl hooting in the eves

Stomp, stomp, stomp of the night creature

whoever he is at this time of night

traipsing along the pavement alone

Looking for what?

Or what's looking for him?

Up and down the streets of gin

Clear night calling, refreshing in its quietude

It's a night owl avenue

Hear them calling

what do they want?

Wise creatures asleep during the heat of the day

Away from crazy man and madness

All the sadness gone away

Some other night owl

They will find us

Surely walking keeps at bay

This feeling of ever saddening

Hunger for love or cheer or pay

Night walker, stalker, dark talker pray

What have you come to say?

Monday 11 July 2022

Do the skeleton walk

 I do the skeleton walk

All bones and elbows

Like Jesus on my cross of crutches

All trussed up, a walking puppet

Stilts of Dali's elephants in deserts

Top heavy

But now loose hung together by sinews

just what is needed for my frame

"Hang loose"

The Romans said to Jesus

When they saw him pinned up there

We make a crucifix of suffixes and prefixes

We make a bonfire of our vanities

And shatter the mirrors of man in God's images

Ever receding an infinity of apes

Ever diminishing the square root of our madness

Human ideas are bound by shapes

None can get beyond their own boundaries

All must, like Lucrece, give way to our rape

and hold in the eyes the pennies of badness

And let fly the scarves that would hang our own nape

The green, green grocer

It was late in the afternoon, as I was closing

When a shopper came in with forlorn look of wanton care

He was begging for it oo he wanted it yeah

He was begging for it oo he wanted it yeah

He said I want it quick, give me just one of your pears

Give it me behind the counter

Give it to me in the shop front

It can be our brief encounter

Just don't stop me getting what I want

He was begging for it, oo he wanted it yeah

He was begging for it, oo he wanted it yeah

So I gave to him his bag of salad

And I gave it to him, I gave him a conference pear

I said take them all, why not buy a bunch of flowers

I said to him why not buy another pear?

He said I want it quick give me a ripe banana, oo yeah

He said I want it quick give me just another one of your pears

So I gave him it, I thrust it into his brown paper bag

I gave it to him saying we're out of passion fruit but don't despair

He couldn't stand it, it drove him wild, he was pulling at his hair

He couldn't pay for it, I asked him if he had a banana down his trousers

He whipped out a gun crying give me my groceries man, I don't care

I said he could take them as he found them for what's an apple missing here or there

Out the door I saw him scarper, then I thought down the street I'll hear him harper

Cos that brown paper bag I gave him needed some repair

Sure enough the bag broke and the joke was on him

The thief who stole my conference pears

Of square pegs and round holes

Free me from the triangles of love

Free me from the circles of lust

From me from the squares of mistrust

And all the shapes of a heart's bust

Free me from the prism of lies

Free me from the vortices of eyes

I am free from the corners where you have blocked me

Am climbing free over the walls of pride

I am getting over the rhombus of your eccentricities

And the pyramids of co-dependencies

Without the circumference of your expectations of me

I am beyond the boarders of a new world paradigmatically

Into the dimensions of a new universality

And a real world I have cut for me

From the flat plane of existential misery

To a new realm of exciting possibility

So don't fence me in, please

Poem for A

 Oh you fat slob

With your sallow mallow, mealy mouth

Pale as a Nursing shark swimming about

In your pool of women you hide in

You pale-faced poser, you cowardly yellow belly

Roll over you hog in the dirty mud of a littered mind

In the crossed wires of our communication

And why not try hanging yourself on one of them

And I shall nod to you and acknowledge your bloated rotting

Corpse that will be feed for crows

Just as they pluck from your skull

The black beady eyes that gave me a look once

of one who thinks he knows me

And can tell or understand from a single line

The meaning or spirit of another

Well with all your insight I hope you know

This poem is about you, you fat motherfucker

Dove town

All about the towns of violence

See the dove, there he rests

Ringing out his song of silence

From the love beats in his chest

Hear him sing ye soldiers marching

Smiling at the coiling smoke

Well your guns will do their arching

Though you might think life's a joke

And all death is merely piling

Bodies up to count to ten

Facing walls the men go filing

But they cry as women wept

See the dove go spiralling, spiralling

Over above the tower blocks

Peaceful bird of love is riling

With the dragon which strangles hope

Come now let down your ladders trailing

Up to heaven's stair as rope

Though the hangman's snares are rivalling

Jesus, God and the Holy Ghost

Fight the urge to despair my young ones

All is love, when love is most

And when is least, then forget worth-whiling,

All is worthy when the Lord's your host

Army, army young men smiling

Young women in their arms may boast

But the dove he yet goes spiralling

Above the town where he's needed most

Triangular bells

And of all the grasses and all the snakes

You had to go and walk into mine

Mistake

Stake your claim drive it in

Hit the post

You hit the nail on the head, again and again

Oh but is there a coffin?

And where is your ghost

Did you escape with the Boffin

Who loved you the most

Or tail-gated it back down to passionate bay

Where the wild loving Sallies they surely play

Did you offer up resistance or with open arms

Say come take me in the middle distance

Of your broken charms

Were you speedy in your love

Like the cuckoo ?

Did you rise in the morning like the

Cockerel who crew

Did you yell pell-mell

Or wipe out your declaim

In the foam tide of the sea

When it came

To reclaim you and yours

And his and mine

And the bright sunshine

That hurts my eyes and brain

Holy Grail

Cats cry, or may be babies

Flats seize

The heart of me

On stairs of level moors

windows clean and bottles blow

Meadows breeze, they stone the crows

In fields knees are boughed and bow

As peasants go gleaning up the rows

Corns stalks shatter and collide

In a kaleidoscope of sties

And pigs which scatter heads of corn

And all the merry month of June is born

Rising like a phoenix bright

From long summer lawns of flight

In equestrian gardens delight

The aristocracy keep the knight

At the table in the castle

For a white and sable parcel

Before him lies

A present disguised

But is this the Holy Grail?

What sunlight shifts, and cloud swirls burn

Like coffee cups

In auburn herbs

And marches of the armies come

Drum and trumpet played as one

Viola and the violin

The oboes, horns and tubas sing

Twenty four miles

 twenty four miles

Like a wild goose

I chased you

Across the field and the fen

Oh like a sore moose I shot you

Across a blazing trail

twenty four miles I'm gonna get you

twenty four hours to go

I got my goldfish

And my moonshine

I got my pocket knife

And my redline

You're gonna cross me

You're gonna get mine

Twenty four miles to go

Love fossil

 You've got propane eyes

Butane soul

Methane mind

Well your gas works blow

Your oil well heart

Sure struck gold

Pumping blood

All over the street

And your fracked senses

In the earth they rolled

And heaven was a wind farm

Of your thought control

Can you tell I've been out a mile

Out of my depth

In your desert of love fossil fuel

Well your love is a fossil long buried it is said

Maybe one day it will be turned into lead

Maybe it could run a combustion engine

But haven't you heard love's gone electric

It's a beast with green eyes, fighting in the storm

Where jealousy's trees are being ripped and torn

Out at the roots oh from when love was born

Oh your dinosaur love is a fossil I'd have sworn

Fairy tale blues

As I slip free of Peter pan

See him go back into the night

Where he first began

And wash Wendy's hands in the dishes

Of Woman and man

I set up the moon

And I take down the sun

And the witches of Eastwick

They can't follow my plan

And I put Dorothy's red shoes

back under her bed

And I lead the lion

To the land of the dead

Well I have the blues in fairy tale land again

And I set the stone of Rosetta

In the mind of the child

Who wished upon a twinkling star

I fought the urge to be wild

With Cinderella and her sisters

When she came home with a Pumpkin Prince

But I've got the fairy tale blues again

I'm not mad at you Little beau peep

It's just the sheep that you keep

They can't help me to sleep

I'm not sad like you little boy blue

Just pull your thumb out of the plumb

And turn your face to the sun

It's time to stand up like a man

I wish you were free little mermaid

To swim your way back to the sea

But if you find the key, why not give it to me

For I've got the fairy tale blues again

Saturday 2 July 2022

Like a ball and chain

 Like a ball and chain

I keep carrying you around

Oh is it all in vain

That I take you with me

Through the wind and rain

Oh like a ball and chain

You keeping knocking on my door

Keep knocking on my brain

I try to let you go but

In the end my friend

You know we're

Tied together like a ball and chain

I look left and you swing right

I invite a guest you say stay the night

I think you're mean, but you don't think I'm right

I haul you over the coals by the firelight

And if we can be examined, and it all proves profane

well we'll be standing at our trial like a ball and chain

Only you can set me free

I have the lock but you have the key

Come on now release us from this awful plight

If I am your ball tomorrow, you'll be my chain tonight

Just raise the hammer and strike against the steel

You know it isn't any wonder, to feel the way I feel

You cannot hear the thunder or see the lightning bolts reveal

The world ablaze, and cast asunder as at the turning of a wheel

Well turn it, drive it yonder across the harvest field

We'll collect the pieces fonder that fall like heaven's zeal

And I am left to ponder this shame over my pain

But it isn't any wonder when we're like a ball and chain

Captain planet

I have seen the rising of the moon

And I have leant into the arms

Of the sea

I have known that this life only

Is lie in a tragedy

Captain planet he's a hero

Gonna take pollution down to

Zero

Gonna tell you this life is framed

For the murder of futures unnamed

He's gonna wave the chequered flag

He's gonna leave you to carry the bag

He's off on holiday and round the bend

And this way or that way he'll be your friend

Captain planet, I wish I knew you

And could let down my hair in a new hair do.

A lad in the levels

 Aladdin in the levels

There was a lad who lived near the levels. This lad one day

Decided the revels had been let out on his virginia scout. So he climbed

Down the vines and onto the peat swamp

The long lines of peat excavations lay before him

Like the grave mounds of great leviathons or sea monsters from the deep

And as he wandered over them, his tired mind did sleep

And he had to lie down for some rest

Shortly after doing this atop a mass grave of peat

He dreamt he was riding upon a whales back through the sea

And the blow hole was spout water and air

Suddenly what he knew was he must go down there

And so he did, he just slid down like a spiral stair

Without the steps

and finally he landed in the whale's mouth

Well it was not much more friendly a place than before

It was damp and a little cold,

But in the corner of the cavenous chamber he saw a lamp

It was golden and shining

And so he picked it up.

A little dim patch caused his reflection to be obscured

And so he rubbed it clean

And as he did a Genie  appeared

In a puff of smoke and spin

The Genie float high above and then leaned in

Are you Aladdin?

Yes said the boy in answer to him

Well come now make a wish

And I will grant it

Aladdin thought, but spent too long for in that moment

The Whale sneezed and both were thrown out onto the rolling seas

With that the boy awoke from his sleep

And found himself nestled into a groove in the peat

Just below him some peat workers were chattin

Lucky for Aladdin he was hidden out of sight, and

Then he saw near where he lay, a little hole made by a rabbit he would say

So he quietly crawled over and peered in

Aladdin he heard his name echo

Somewhere within

And drawn in further he leant and leant and leant until

Finally he fell head first down the peat well

If you have ever walked in peat you will know this is no light thing and

That to fall in a sink hole can mean the death of you

So Aladdin was by now beginning to panic

He was head first in a tunnel

and he could see a rabbit but the more he tried to twist and free himself

The further down he slid until darkness seemed to overcome him

And finally he closed his eye lids

With a twitch of his nose he sneezed and awoke

He could see a little rabbit who seemed to laugh at a joke

And down in this chamber hidden deep under ground

He was stuck in the upper quarter of the ceiling of the burrow

Somehow he freed and arm and then pulled on a root

And this action brought him down without harm

But with a thump

The rabbits scattered then meekly peaked their heads out

Where am I he thought?

Am I under the swamp?

The chamber was bigg enough for him to crawl along

On his hands and knees and a strange glowing light of green

glowed from underneath the trees - their roots held some

Algae or perhaps laces of fungi

That glowed iridescent in the dark

Suddenly a glow worm spun down and said

Hello Aladdin, my name's spark

Spark showed Aladdin the way through the cave system

And into and underground wonderland

He could see sticking out of all the walls

lots of artefacts of ancient archaeology

There were 16th century pistols used by highway men, there were

Anglo-Saxon treasures of helmets and spears

There were Roman chariot wheels, and shields and old sandals

There were even some Roman Catholic candles

There were iron age devices and fires and stoves

And stone age pottery and glowing glass globes

There were Victorian furniture -tables and chairs

And medieval cannons and the skeletons of bears

And it was like a museum of preserved treasures of the past

But what caught Aladdin's eye was of course the last

A shining golden lamp that had something in it

So that when he gave it a tap somebody said stop it

And so he handled this lamp between his fingers

And began to polish its edges and peer under the lid

And finally he thought well thumb it, so he gave it a rub

With the rub spewed forth this ancient Genie

The Genius of the levels trapped in a bottle

Like a message he came out
