Bear and fish story

Life etc a glossary of terms

Be for a bear who lives in the forest

And stealthily catches the salmon

F for the fish who swims upstream

And is caught in the sunlight's gleam

The bear caught the fish

But the fish said

Why'd you want to eat me

For my shining white body

For my gleaming scales

Or because I'm fast in the water

While you are slow and clumsy

I am not the bear protested as slow

As you claim

For I've caught you or is that not the same?

While you may have caught me

Many other faster fish have slipped through

So what was it you wanted me for?

Good point said the bear and threw

Her back in

Then he thought to himself

That fish tricked me

And made me think I could catch a better fish

Than she

Oh I am a slow clumsy bear as she says

But despite this he kept on fishing

And caught other fish who did not complain

The next summer he was fishing again

And he caught the same talking fish

That's twice now, said the fish

Just as the bear was about to eat her

What is it you have against me? When there

Are plenty of other perfectly good fish in this stream?

Well I don't know what you mean

Said the Bear

I'll show you

And with that

The fish held the bear's head in her flippers

And kissed him a full lip-smacking kiss on the mouth!

What did you do that for, stammered the bear

As he staggered back in shock

Well I thought I'd teach you a lesson

You can do more than eat with your mouth

Or talk slow stupid words

You can love and be kind instead

I see said the bear, can we try that lesson again?

Yes why not, said the fish, as long as you promise

To put me back in the stream soon or I shall suffocate

The bear agreed, and they went on kissing until

The fish began to beat her tail

Which told the bear to drop her back into the water

To save her life

She swam on upstream and gave a glance and a wink

Back at him

And the bear who had never thought of fish like that

Went on with his daily life

But instead of eating fish he took to eating berries instead

Only by the next year he'd forgotten his lesson

And was again hunting the fish in the stream

That went through his territory

I'm from the forest he said

And they are from the stream

And we could never be together again

Only in a dream

Which the bear had actually

Nightly

That he and the fish would somehow be married

she came to him again then

Into his paws and she slipped up to his hairy bear mouth

Her silver fish lips

And her silver scale back seemed to feel like a bear

And her flippers became like claws that

Wouldn't let him go

Then he felt himself becoming more and more

Like a fish

He would swim up the river with the salmon

And jump up the falls

And they called him their bear brother

Fish bear, bear-fish

But he would get cold and tired of swimming

While the strong sleek salmon swam on

He had to rest on the river bank beside the stream

And so he always wandered back home in the end

Finally she came again and he caught her

And he would not let her go

He wanted to kiss her

But she said no

For you have tried to eat

My brothers and sisters again

But I tried to became a fish like you

And I couldn't change not fully

I still have to have my forest to live in

But why can't you live her with me

I can dig you a pool and you can stay?

But I need the running water

I need to move or I shall die

You can try, he said, you can try as did I!

So she agreed to try and he built her an outlet

A kind of watering pond with an offshoot

Of her stream where she could shelter in the

Shade of the trees

Where the water flowed not so strong

And he could sit upon a rock

And sing her a song

And she, being s fish with a good pair of lungs

or gills really joined in along

And their bear fish song could

Be heard throughout the ringing mountains

And onto the hills in the valleys

And across the fields

He shrill harmony, like a wine glass rung

And his a deep vibrato alto bass, tenor sung

All the growling, and howling and all the

silver water quick mercury calling

As he fellow salmon went a leaping

Up the waters falling

They loved and they lived with each other

daily and nightly under the stars

They embraced and kissed the face

Of forever

But the time came when she had to leave him

and return back to the sea

And he was as sad as a sad bear could be

But he knew she couldn't stay

He just thought that he

Might try to became a river boat captain and sail

Out to sea

And follow her out into the wide ocean

Not a place for a bear from the mountain havens

But believe you me he loved her and would have

seas a seven if only he could be by her side.

Red fox

I saw a red fox, just

chillin' on the hillin

He looked so happy

like Just after a killin,

killin' a chicken

Skulking away

Like he was making hay

But he was in the field

In December not the month of May

I saw a red fox just a chillin' on the hill

and I saw a brown box

just millin in the mill

Nobody asked the cockerel

If he was crowing for the sun

Nobody even noticed

The day was nearly done

Any old Adam

Well paradise was full of birds and bees

And elephants with long trunks

Tucked up their sleeves

And God said, look who's that man Eve

And she said - I don't know him from Adam

Now Eve, I thought I told you not to mess around with boys

You know you will break my equipment

These men are not toys

I have already given you several models named Steve

So who's this one Eve?

And Eve said I don't know him from Adam

But Eve said, this one's different, I can feel it in my bones

For now I've set the ball rolling, it's like a rolling stone

And please stop this cajolling, insistent tone

God said do you still believe in me Eve?

Eve said, well I don't know you from Adam

Just then a snake slithered down from up in the leaves

Eve thought he was a rope so gave him a heave

Hey kid quit pulling me down,  what are ya tryin to achieve?

Eve said oh you must be new in town, because I don't know you from Adam

Well if that's how you treat a stranger, I think I'll get myself lost

I can see a three leafed clover, there's a manger and a holy ghost

Perhaps if I went in, they might give me a warmer toast

Eve said I doubt it unless you can shed your skin,

They don't know you from Adam

And Adam said to God, I don't know if I  really know myself

God said here's a mirror, look within you'll find I am your twin

And so they embraced, like long lost cousins, and Adam got a lump in his throat

And God got a pain in his neck, and before you could say paradise

Eve appeared with an apple

Now I'm willin' to marry a twin, you don't have to ask me twice

But before we tie the ribbon, I think it would be nice

If you can introduce him, the one with the snake eyes

And God said I would but I don't know him from Adam

All alone in the Ark

 Where is that Angel tonight

I'm praying with all of my might

The begging woman in the car park

Getting change for a space, making space for change

The junky walks across the graveyard

And pain swings low down in his chariot

You are hurting me

He says

You are hurting me

As you touch my face

And the dark eyed loser

retraces his steps

All alone in Noah's Ark

All alone in the park

All alone in the dark

As the animals play

In the forests of the world

And the cuckoo calls

From the olive tree

And I am like a dove

With my mouth full of dry branches

The night flashes

And the thunder crashes

And the fishes play with the sharks

The horses neigh, and the chickens lay

And Noah is all alone in the Ark

Oh you can hear the world turning

And see the ships on the sea

You can find out all that you're learning

Should be no kind of big mystery

But the cuckoo still calls in the tree

And the dogs run free in the park

As junkies are stoned, and Noah's still alone

Yes he's still all alone in his Ark

And am I an animal

He says

Is my soul a hole in the dark

Do I shun the contact

Who will light the spark?

Is my soul an animal

Away from human hark

Have I become the pairless bird

Who stands aboard the Ark?

Tuesday 31 October 2023

Is it right?

Can you tell me, can you tell me

Can you tell me

Is it right

That the things which had been sworn

Keep you up late at night

And is it like a unicorn, moving so magical and bright

Across the favoured summer's lawn

Oh it keeps me awake at night

And is it right that the blacks

Have lost their rights

Is it right that the blues go down Madison's loos

Is it right

In the ailing ships that sway at bay

And is it right that my stopped clock

Is still right twice a day

Tell me in the graveyards

Who has brought the corn?

And scattered over the dead corpses

So that they might be reborn?

Tell will they get up and walk around til dawn

Oh tell me, tell me, tell me is it right?

Is it right that the plague comes and knocks upon my door

While it leaves my neighbour alone,

Makes me want to settle the score

Oh we are all alone before the accounts of the Lord

But I know I can't lift this millstone

That hangs around my neck any more

Tell me oh tell me, tell me is it right?

Oh tell me , tell me,

What keeps you tossing in your bed at night

Is it that you are lonely, is it that your dove has flown

Or is it only that your afraid of the unknown

And who should come and turn on your light

Well follow her to the aquifer and bleed that stone tonight

Tell me oh tell me, tell me is it right

That the blood hurts but what's worse is

You don't even care

And of course I curse, of course I nurse

A kind of self-mocking despair

But what's worse is I can see the hearse

Cannot park anywhere!

Tell me oh tell me, tell me is it right

That the carnival of animals

Are on the road tonight

That we all see a vacant sign

When there's someone in there

But she can't get out, and he starts to shout

That there's a human whose soul is laid bare

Or is made out of fresh air?

Fir tree Pet Hotel

 Cats with suitcases

Cats taking the suitcases

From railway platforms

Passing eachother on the underground

Suitcase and hat on

Suitcase in hand

Dogs taking it easy in the hotel room

Just kicking up their feet

And taking a sip on a pinacolada

A Basset hound with a bloody Mary

A chiwawa with a gin and tonic

Oh the pets are enjoying their holiday

In the pet hotel

Won't you take me to the Pet hotel

Pet hotel is where I wanna stay

Away from my master for a week or two

In the Pet Hotel with you

Yes you can pet me all you like

You can mollycoddle and do what you like

But I'm a dog with my animal rights

Yes I want a holiday too

I'm going to the Pet Hotel

It's out in the sticks and stones

And little puppy dog tails and bones

I'm going to the Pet Hotel

It's not like a zoo

There are no prison guards

there's no cages too

Yes it's a Pet Hotel and I want to

Stay there with you

Do do, do do, do do- do-do

It's a Pet Hotel come on everyone

And kick your feet up in front of the fire

It's a Pet Hotel, anything you want is alright

In the pet Hotel

It's the Pet Hotel

Everywhere you go

In summer or snow

Yes Pet Hotel, you can forget about your cares

You can leave your worries at the door

Or under the stairs

Pet Hotel there's no door mat

To wipe your paws

Pet Hotel come on in Cat

You can sharpen your claws

And treat all your sores

De-tick your fur or cough up your balls

Pet Hotel I'm not trying to infer

It's mine when it's obviously yours

The Garden Stroll

In the early light
When witches candles turn low to smite
The earthly walkers on a stroll
Beside an ancient garden wall
Then one says to the other
“How strange!?
The brick work of Eden has been rearranged.”
As they ponder mortar and stone
They feel the feeling they aren’t alone
Then an archway becomes clear
Designated this way; ”Do not Enter Here!”
They hold hands then cross the threshold
Into a garden bright and so bold
The green’s of willow
The lush of Ash
Oaken avenues stand in stash
All look starkly like someone’s preserve
They feel darkly like they do not deserve
And then a hare and next a rabbit
Come by close as if by habit
Disarmed the intruders are quite standoffish
Then they realise they appear quite selfish
And pet and talk kind words to the mammals
Feeling next they may meet some camels
As they stand and pervade the view
The garden’s paradise changes hue
And far over a foreign hill
They see Cain fight Able, until one is killed
And open under heaven’s skies
They see rains fall and flooded lies
Noah’s Ark is there by chance
But many a bad creature takes death’s dance
And suddenly they too are running from the flood
By this they find the ties of water
Much stronger than those of blood
All washed up now on heaven’s shore
They think of their stroll to the garden’s core
And they think to themselves, but neither comment
They should not have walked in wherever they wanted

Great Breech Wood

I went to walk in Great Breech wood
And found myself where trees abound
The North wind blew between dead twigs
And curled the leaves that lay on the ground

My nose it twitched, my ears they itched
I felt the presence of deer and hounds
I saw a squirrel run to a trees furthest reach
And heard the forest birds song of sound

The nettles stung, the beeches browned
The Oaks were strengthened by the ground
The leaves curled in the winter furls
That twirled the wind and around me wound

And my love did call from beneath an ash’s eves
Like a satellite I was drawn to its planetary crown
Then Great breach wood was torn asunder
It gave forth lumber of Larch and pine
All of it under a winter storms thunder
Which rattled the bones of all those near
Their toppling heights and treacherous climbs

My dear lady was struck by a bolt of lightning
A love dart from the Gods struck her in her prime

And the planetary dark that ensued was a wonder
To walk in this park I felt was a crime
My romantic soul wished to lurch in search of a number
By which I could dial then bring back the time

But the forest which was wiser than mountains
Held my soul fast so alone I did climb
To birth the last hope I had of my loved one
And set her soul free her one God to find

Now alone I walked through the forest alive
Badgers scurried like bank clerks collecting
Their wad of twigs and worms like knives

The wood pecker sung the pigeon cooed
A single black bird alone mewed

And rats slumbered beneath
Rotting tree limbs
As foxes cavorted singing howling hymns

Then the forest was then quiet as a graveyard hushed
As greenery flourished
And foliage lushed

The sandal wearing saint was knighted
The night began its game
Half housed between this world and the next
Advantaged
As in the eves called the owls

And many Stations of the Cross were planted
As herbs and forest plants were avowed
Into sacred celebration
Of the moon lit majestic cows (boughs)
Who’s alien forms besmirched the landscape
And past the night with heavy sounds

Until in the dawn rose the single starlings
In the flock of chorus loud
And beneath the canopy of heaven
Wrote the names of those in shroud

To be remembered by the martyrs
Who had seen and died,
And lived then bowed

And this I saw while I was walking
All this was mine of to be most proud
Inside the Breach of the Great Wood Vaunted
And opened its vaults to the sun and the cloud

Otter

Otter sleek, Minky whale black

Bitter as beer, the coal black water
Mirrors as obsidian
This corpuscular form
Meiosis divided itself
From the jelly mass of the lake
Yet never breaking the meniscus
- it bobs it's whiskers appear damp
And shining
Back rises and slinks back into the black

The fox

The fox stalked across the field in the late afternoon light

A ragged and thread bare specimen, ravaged from the cruel cold winter
That lengthened into February
He stops looks round searchingly
Yet distracted, somehow fidgeting with his own dire experience
His own state of affairs
My mother points out the starlings swooping above him as they ready to roost
Among the levels further down along the reeds
The fox moves sleekly, slinking like a chain of bones concertinaing
And then squats to lay his scent or shit
I have almost lost interest as he becomes the grey of sky, the brown and pale yellows of winter hedgerows
May be he was the fox that ate our chickens I say to my mother
All those years ago

He is an intruder, yet somehow respected for his cleverness despite this. And I feel somehow very safe and sanitized in this my mother’s house but seeing him also vulnerable. Like seeing a thief from behind the confines of a ‘CCTV’ camera – catching him in the act. It is the interest in his survival, his spirit and hut spa. Confidence in wildness, somehow he will always be there, in the back of your mind.

Medley o

 For sometimes the dust mouse

With the balloon legs flies

And jars against the corners of coroners

Who are borrowing rainbows from wet skies

And velvet like a jet plane

That too smoothly

Leads the pop charts

In Rocket man serenades

Of American football players

As I empty my conscious mind on the page

And jollop of the trollop

Who with Anthony now pays

For his term in Hell

As berms like barrows swell

With ever more victims

Of Anglo Saxon descent

On cut corner garages

Where the fuel pipe is spent

By Alpha males who drive oil trucks

And dig the graves of otters

Who sereptiously at nightcall up their mothers

That twinly like the windmills

On Salisbury hill

Turn in ever soft records

Where the blue birds trill

And fellow knights of Henry

Have arrived by Welsh appeal

To garner the orange men of Wednesday

With their Zesty peel

And toothless crows will talk in hedgerows

Of Black Friday wills

Where Jesus was a charioteer

And Neil Diamond steals

The lime light of lemon trees

In elementary muse

So cut throat in pleasantries

That he must be killed

Swan

 Swan you little plesiosaurus

Look you up in a thesaurus

You're a synonym for white

And some how you learnt to fly

but prefer the water to the sky

I can't control it said the swan

The sky and the earth on this day

I am the king of the pond

I am the mirror bird I say

I hold your reflection in my mind

And I give back you my white in kind

Give back the white

Oh will you read between the lines

Of the black and white

And see through to the otherside of the mirror

Said to the lily, why be a pad

Like a biscuit

I sip from your waterlip

And swill down the plankton

Into my gullet

And you have to give me your yellow

And I'll cut loose Mr goose

And give you back my white

Give me your green Mr froggy

And he said ribbet and swam along

I'll give you my green if you sing your swan song

So the swan sang a beautiful blood red tune

And Froggy gave him his green

And he gave back his white

Give me your brown Mr Otter

And the Otter dipped into the jelly black lake

Said I'll give you my brown if you prove you're no fake

So the Swan rose up like a dragon and beat his wings

And Otter gave him his brown

And he gave back his white

Give me your black Mr Raven

And Raven said no way and flew away

But wait! cried swan, you swore you were my mate

And raven's beady eyes spied him, said Ok

Friend, you can take a piece of my black

And Swan gave him his white

And Raven danced his Magpie jig

Why then, said Swan, with all these colours am I still white?

And the lake spoke up and said you made a grave mistake

While you gave away your white there was no promise made the other way

So the only colour your young may be is grey

To remind you of the trust you had in other animals

Then the white to remind you that all animals lie

Animal farm

What if the Russians controlled Divina McColl?

I don't give a monkeys

I've got a ladder in my giraffe

There's a snake down my trousers

And ants in my pants

I'm an eager beaver

I've got a dolphin's glance

I'm missing my penguin

I need an eagle's eye

There are eleven elephants who've forgotten how to die

And a parrot named dignity

Who can't stop talking lies

White Buffalo

 Champagne white buffalo

Flowing

Down over the plains

Champagne white Buffalo

Go against the herd

I hold you like a rainbow

No now that's absurd

Champagne white Buffalo

You are bound to cross the line

Some farmer is gonna kill you

Time after bloody time

Keep running white buffalo

Way across the plains

There's no fence can stop

You

And Oh the guns unheard

Find within the shadow

The voices of the past

Find with the rainbow

Your eternal mask

oh white Buffalo

I know you're gonna last

Run on white Buffalo

Through the chains held fast

Farmer come running

He's gonna get his gun

Run on White Buffalo

Til your race is done

Snail tale

 In the garden,

There was a government of snails

And the government said,

There can only be right handed (twist) snails

Whose shells wind in the right handed way

If there are any left handed snails here

Kick them out of the garden

Keep them outside of the fence

And throw them out of the gate

May they never come back in

If they must be here, they must be hidden

For they are an abomination of nature

And so George wandered around, or rather slithered around

because he was a snail, quite aimlessly

And he couldn't properly talk to other snails

They were always a little too distant from him

And therefore he found it very difficult to get on

And it was like driving a bus

When two bus drivers pass eachother on opposite sides of the street

But they can't talk to eachother because they are seated on the wrong side of the bus.

You see we're not all the same,

We're not all symmetrical or we're not all perfect

Some of us are right handed and some of us are left handed

And we can't all be the same, but generally in fact always

The right handed snails could only start families with other right handed snails

Because they liked the direction

And it just meant everything together between them worked better

The thing is there were also the sort of snails who were left-handed in the world

And even outside of the garden where George had been born

It's just he didn't know it.

So for now he slithered around and tried to avoid

Eye contact with the other snails

Who all shunned him and he felt like a pariah

He was stuck on the wrong side of the fence

So as I was saying, the other snails started to put up signs as well

with a big snail on it, like a left handed snail whose shell twisted the wrong way

and a big cross over it and they said, no he's not allowed in here

Sometimes there were these jam jars left in the garden

And the snails all liked to congregate in them and all have chats

and be very socialable, except when they saw George coming

They all turned their shells and ganged up on him so he couldn't get in

And it was very difficult for him.

One day a friendly snailogist or entomologist - one who studies insects and molluscs - which is what a snail is - Dr Daddy Longlegs

was wandering about the neighbourhood

He decided to go and see his friend Mrs Cook who had just baked a lovely cake for him

and her other friends

Mrs Cook and he were sitting outside in the garden having a cup of tea and enjoying the sunshine.

When the entomologist looked down and saw upon his shoe an interesting looking snail

Who was looking up at him in an interesting sort of manner.

Cocking his head to one side and extending his eyeballs out on their storks

And he said to himself, that's strange that seems like

The most unusual snail I've ever seen  in my life

And he picked up the snail from off his shoe and put it in his lunch box

And in his lunch box he took a closer look and could see that his shell

Had wound the wrong way, it had gone left instead of right

He started to look about the garden and tried to find some other snails

"Do you know that in your garden", he said, "it is full of right handed snails and

This one snail here, who I think I shall name George is actually a left handed snail?"

"How unusual", said Mrs Cook, "what does it mean Dr Daddy Long Legs?"

"Well what it means is that this poor chap unfortunately doesn't have any friends

And he won't be able to have a family with anyother kind of snail

Unless they be lefthanded snails"

So tragically that was the end for poor George

Or so he thought as he listened

So what the Entomologist did then, was he took George with him

And took a photograph and said to his friend the journalist Max Webber

Look what we have here is a very special snail

So special indeed that there may only be one of his kind in the entire country!

"How incredible!" said Max the journalist!

But if it is that would make it the Hapax Legomenon

Do you mean the Happy Legomen's mum?

No the Hapax Legomenon, it's the only instance of something

Well the fact is this snail, he needs a partner and a friend in this world

So we must put out a search and scour the whole of Great Britain for other left-handed snails

And if we can find them then maybe George can have a family of his own one day

Well I don't like the sound of his chances, but perhaps I can help, said Max

We can put an advert up in my paper!

And so they did just that

And once they'd done it

It was remarkable

It did take several months

But then the first left handed snail arrived through the post

Who was very happy to shake hands with George

And here they were up in Mrs Cook's garden again,

After Daddy Longlegs had brought them back and put them in a

Special cordoned off area where only George and his friend could stay

And the right handed snails had to look on enviously

And talking and spreading rumours about them saying

Things like oh look at those two

What are they doing in there

And so George and his friend actually started a family

And then there was another left-handed snail who was their baby

Which was remarkable

In fact over the course of some years

Even more readers of Max Webber's magazine Snail Trails Monthly

Were sending in their snail mail

And in the post little boxes Dr Daddy Long legs discovered

To his great Joy and surprise that they were sending in Left Handed snails

Now even though this wasn't a plethora of snails

Or indeed a panorama, it was  in fact enough for George to keep making his own families

And so eventually George wasn't alone in the world anymore

They lived in this little section of the garden

But soon interest grew in the outside world

And they thought perhaps these snails

Could live outside of the garden too

And so that is just what they did

It was a great exodus of left handed snails who crossed over the border

And searched out a new world to live in.

Some stayed behind because they liked the garden

George was one of those who wanted to explore

He'd always wanted to explore his whole life

Perhaps because he didn't feel welcome in the right handed side of the garden

Eventually after many years of travelling and starting different families

A bit like starting new businesses up George retruned back his first garden

And he saw to his great surprise that the left handed snails and the right handed snails

Were living together quite peacably

In harmony and it was such a great joy when he could see they could all live together happily

And he went and joined them in the jam jar and they had a right old time

Chatting about life and the things that he had seen outside of the garden wall

Friday 19 November 2021

Wounded Bambi, take me to the garden

Through the mists the Bambi stalks

How softly does she tread

Her iron heart a mask of life

Her hooves of solid lead

And yet she bleeds

Her scalp is nicked

from her pelt a trickle of blood runs

And I can see her softly tread

as after her range the guns

They have her in their sights

She wanders through the park

And to the children's playpen

Where lifeless machines

They stand in the dark

On steel springs

Once they rocked to the children's voices laughing

The bunny, the fox

The dog that barks

And all were so enticing

But the children all have left now

They are gone and will not return

The barren mothers stare out to the sun

And watch as the night's candles burn

The plastic babies have come again from the factory

Of google processing

They march to the hum of the internet's drum

And the hearts are full of reproaching

What has become of the earth they cry

They whine and whinny as donkeys they sigh

And what have you left us but

The long goodbye

Under grey and gathering skies

And as the Baby cham bambi curls herself up on the

The asphalt of the playground

The other disney animals come to life

And spring from their unsprung anchors

They bounce and singing

And carol, they cajole and goad

Each other on

Who can bounce the highest or

Swing the fastest

And the merry-go-round spins on

Then they break free of the playground crashing

Through picket fences

And go bouncing off

down the roads

Of privet lined green hedges

Their heads are bobbing above garden walls

They leap and

Smash plant pots over and fall

Send cats and dogs

Screaming and howling and call

Oh to the mothers of recompenses

Where are your children

Now you barren ones

Where are the generations

Of the dying sun

Who will inherit the earth

From our mum

But yet the hunter with his

black gun

And the plastic babies are marching now

To the town of the barren

And brown paper bag proud

And they knock on the doors

Of the mothers endowed

With money but no second chances

They say take us on board

We will be your brood hoard

We who will never grow old

Remembrance Day

Oh the young who fell to the sword

Yes their ghosts will live on in perpetuity

No more wars no more death

No more living for greed

Our great grandfathers come back in our hour of need

And we are invested with their spirit

Their seed

We who will never grow old

We will work the garden

And till the soil

And build a world

Through blood sweat and toil

And nothing will be feared

For the climate won't boil

We will cool it with our heads

Screwed on like bottle necks

Cool it with our hands

Shuffled off the mortal coil

The otters two

Well I came from the river

And I walked on the land

And the fish were like glitter

All in my right hand

And I saw the otters two

And I saw the otters two

And the brazen brown heron

He bored in pursuit

Of the darting white minnow

That shot from his foot

And I saw the otters two

And I saw the otters two

And parkland was fiery

With the breath of the common man

Who said I claim thee sweet Mary

By the last death I stand

And I saw the otters two

And I saw the otters two

And the Cathedral bells were tolling

Like a rock and rolling sound

And the priest bishop mourning

For the lost souls in the ground

And I saw the otters two

And I saw the otters two

And the cupboard fell over

And on its side did it land

A scraping the plaster border

Which will need a fill and a sand

And I saw the otters two

And I saw the otters two

They were running down the long track

Like sprinters in the high jack

And they raced like two cats

But low down as in attack

And they ignored the running man

They ignored the roadside van

They dived to the lake

And continued their love-make

It was a screeching and a hollaring

And one got a collaring

And he ran off alone through the undergrowth

And I saw the otters two

I saw the otters two

Mosquito Cloud

 Mosquito, mosquito cloud

After the rain hovering

Feathers mobile

Little ant wings

After the rain

Angels sing

Mosquito, down on the swamp

Up on the hill listen to the thump

Beating down rain drops jump

Splash up from the ground

Like a spring

Mosquito, mosquito cloud

mobile on invisible string

Jog up and down

By the invisible hand

The same one that claps aloud

What's that sound that I hear now

Just the sound of one hand clapping

Mosquito cloud before the thunderstorm

Waking aloud to the moist and warm

Crackling like the voice of thunder

Mosquito flys in radar under

Bombs me now from the breaking skies

Heaven has broken, its banks open wide

Down rushes rivers of rain

Mosquitoes know in their hive brain

Animan

Everyone was bitten by a bug

They started crawling on all fours

Then they were bitten by a dog

They started scratching at all the doors

Then they were bitten by the cat

They started meowing after that

And got a lot more attitude

Like West of 98 degrees longitude

Next they were bitten by a gull

They then squawked and scratched their skull

Each transformation figured

To make them even bigger in their soul

For as they were becoming more animal

They indeed became more human

Strangely they started to see each other

Far more clearly now they were covered

In scales and feathers and fins and wings

They started to notice the tiniest things

Like acts of kindness, when they could have been cruel

Yes, the mean ones then were going back to school

To learn whatever lesson they had never been taught

And it was a blessing as the like cannot be bought

So, as I say these humanimals populated a planet

And like the new creator they tried their best to plan it

So, there were no more sacred vows nor promises which were broken

Instead they were calm as Hindu cows and more quiet as they had spoken

They listen more to each other's words, they tried to mend deep wounds

Like doctors they tended to their enemies with a likeness to their friends

And some how this strange amalgam that had an animal and human part

Was able to quell Mother nature's wrath when she came with broken heart

So instead of humanimals they became animans who ate,

and fished and swam

With the whales and dolphins and penguins,

and they hunted with the polar bears

And they died with the deer,

and they sang with the white throats

And their voices sounded so clear,

clearer than a human alone

Was ever able to express,

but with their animal brother and sister tones

They sang their song of existence

For survival was the name of the game

They had to adapt or die

And that they did through The Spirit above

Who was calling them to up the sky

Night at the Silver Screen

I tried to hit the nail on the head

My hammer was as flat as iron

I tried to shoot the elephant dead

But I ended up killing the lion

I tried to raise an army instead

But I raised a merry day in hell

For it all fell like lumps of lead

From the church roof after a shell

I tried to spell the good

From out the eye of evil

But the cult leader was well

In with the damned devil

I sold his soul to Satan

And he gave me coins of silver

Which I put in the slot machine

And earnt myself a dollar

I tried to get even

And got God on my side

And we went down to deal with them

But our words felt hollow inside

So I spoke out to the moon

Can you give me back my silver spoon

I am poor but with your boon

I hope to take Eve to the movies (soon)

The moon said why good on ya Sam

I said no I'm Adam, Sam's my Uncle

He said why Goddam I didn't ask for your carbuncle

Just go and fetch me a Rabbit ham

And throw in a side of Turkey

I thought 'Why? Who does he think I am?

His private messenger or Mercury?'

Eve said forget it I'm going out with Mars

He knows how to treat a lady, and he drives fast cars

Well I said I can walk you to the moon

But it would be quicker if you pulled on this silver balloon

Eve sort of screamed then in exasperation

And then she popped my hopes and dreams

With one giant explanation

That it was one small step for man to buy her a goddam ticket

But a giant leap for a bozo like me, so I better lick it

With that she stamped her feet, and I licked her stamp

I mean I kissed her boot heels, which made me feel like a tramp

Soon though she calmed down and we got to the silver screen

It was playing a version of the little lost lamb, as if she was my Bo peep

And I said I've forgotten who I am, and I think I need some sleep

She said baby you know you're Adam and you need to count some sheep

So there I was dreaming while this movie started showing

And she was eating pop-corn and I thought it started snowing

But that was just her kisses as they were falling on my cheek

And we were like the birds and bees in knowing

That we were oh so weak

Then the credits started rolling

And it seemed the show was over

And I looked back at the musical score

And it said courtesy of the Mars Rover

That kind of killed the mood

And I drove home in a sulk

Since she said I was being rude

She might as well be dating the Hulk

At that I turned green

And it was just like in that movie we had seen

When the monster goes chasing down the limosene

And they both end up in the river

So with a shiver she said

That makes me quiver

And so I shot her an arrow

I cannot say I missed her by much

But of course her mind was quite narrow

And even if she grew in her heart

I was still missing my extra dart

So I started by kissing, she got up with a start

From the sofa that was leaning over

And it was then I saw the mars rover

He had been hanging around all along

And like a dog I tried to run him over

But he only increased his swan song

Oh for the Martians, the red and the green

Who come down to earth to fight in a scene

That looks just like they came from the silver screen

But in fact it was just an earth man acting so mean

Eve said why do we need an invasion

When we already have our own privation

Of love and harmony and human persuasion

When one will wants to bend the other's to their own

Still I could see the little green man

Had her all riled up over a bean can

Whether spilt or piled or drained those human beans

Don't add up to much compared to life on the silver screen
