The oil rig jam

They call it the oil rig jam

Yeah you work for years on an oil rig

Tough, hard work for a real man

Gives you pride in yourself

You can say yeah I know who I am

You lookin' at me buddy?

Call me Uncle Sam

But it ain't no good thing to carry that can

No they call it the oil rig jam

You see you got blood on your hands

Though it ain't red

It's as black as those thoughts that

Run through your head

When you think of the people and

habitats that are dead

All because of your oil rig jam

You see you can't expunge all the guilt

That is yours

Just by turning over a green leaf and start working

Outdoors

Volunteer for community projects

Helping the poor

Yeah, now do you say I know who I am?

No, uncle Sam

No more

Because now you're in the oil rig jam

Yeah you drilled into the earth

And pillaged her plunder

You raped the sea bed

Of all its life and its wonder

Just to line your own pockets

With gold thread galore

And to buy a four bed home

Near cathedral doors

You might as well face it

You've been working for hell

And the devil is your master

And he rings your bell

Everytime you hear the kerching

Of the cash register ring

It is sad to say it Sam

But you're in the oil rig jam

Thousands of gallons of crude oil spill

across oceans killing the sea life

They're drowning in your devotion

To the black gold you worship

And the master you serve

Oh you've gone and blown it

I hope you get what you deserve

Because you can't pretend now

That you're a big boy scout

When really it's your boys' toys

That have put us up the spout

And you have the gall

To tell me how to live my life!?

Environmentally sound

Like you're some saint without doubt

You're a hypocrite by nature and name

Sam

And that's why you're in the Oil rig jam

The sum of all our fears

Will you create a lasting world?

Will you dry our tears

Will you ensure life for every boy or girl

That's the sum of all our fears

That's the sum of all our fears

Are your eyes seeing, what our eyes see

These visions of hell and heaven not free

Will you close the book and just let it be

While the water boils down in the sea

That's the sum of all our tears

That's the sum of all our tears

With your finger on the buttons of a warhead

Will you press the red button marked send

Will you let loose the dogs of war unlead

Like the fossil fuels that have come to an end

For that's the sum of all our fears

That's the sum of all our fears

There wasn't a dry eye in the house

When the film of Earth ran off its reel

The director was as quiet as a mouse

But you could hear every producer just squeal

Will you ask mother nature for a refund

Saying I thought we had a lifetime's guarantee

She said look son what you've made me do

It's because of you that I had to roam free

So I stare in the mirror like a mad man

And ask myself what am I going to do?

Just wait for death here in the badlands

Where the dry winds are blowing their due

Shine a light in from outside Lord

For this house is going into the shade

And we're sitting beneath a hanging sword

It's one that's only man-made

Let us be judged by a court of our peers

Let the hammer stroke beat on the gavel

For this is the sum of all our fears

For our fears yet have a long way to travel

radio carbon

I tune into to Radio Carbon

I listen all through the night

And the tracks they play

On the records of the years

They really make me feel alright

I can get stuck in the groove

of the tree trunk serenade

And petrified starfish in

Oil sumps

When cars are burning away

I can get hooked on the half life

That some live

While others only dream about

And I want to scream and shout

When the dates turn out

To be more than 30 years in doubt

I say That's way too young man

And you should never have gone so low

Oh Radio carbon let's just

Go on with the show

Well the pirates are running it

Off on their Oil Rigs

Or deep inside the mines

Where for precious stones their dig

To fuel all our technological dreams

Of a highfalutin future

And think ourselves so suave and cool

With our cell phone computers

But what if we knew child slaves

Dug our power, that their lives were cut short

Or strangled in the hour

Of their earliest hopes and dreams

Just so we in rich countries can livestream

Our favourite shows

To our mobile screens

So Radio carbon try telling this story

Let's hear it in the hour

Between rest and toil

Let's throw off this poison

That leaks from our batteries

And makes our heart so foison

With greed and desire

Let's throw out this technocracy

Out into the hellish fires

Only the tip of the iceberg

Well they thought it would break
They thought it would shake
They even thought that they could make it
But as they turn up the heat
There's a roll of thunder in the deep
And that's only the tip of the iceberg

Now they were shouting in the street
They were love and life complete
And they thought it would last forever
But with the rising of the sun
Oh the dark days they soon would come
And that's only the tip of the iceberg

Now the countries they tried some
Glue to fix or to plug with gum
The holes in the ship that they'd been making
But as the ocean rise rolled on
And on the sinking ship the Captain's sum
Told him
That's only the tip of the iceberg

So come back from roads that roam
Down country lanes far from home
Our rambling days soon will be ending
There are bridges we have burnt
That need fixing with what we've learnt
And that's only the tip of the iceberg

They say good things come to those who wait
But now's not the time to hesitate
Grab your hammer and nails, fix your sails
Repair the mast and gunwhales
The ship will pass through narrow straits
To freedom
And a new day will be born
When the young world will give a yawn
And that's only the tip of the iceberg
