Too many Roses

I walked upon a clotted hill

Too many, many roses

I fought for Virginia for capital

Too many, many roses

I thought of where the creeper lies

Too many, many roses

And blow my bubble gum dollar bills

On too many many roses

But what fore art you loathe to kill

Too many, many Roses

Love shall kill from window sill

Too many many roses

Said Romeo to her Juliet will

You marry me for my poesies?

And She said Romeo, I surely will

For too many, many roses

I lifted the lid on the fairy tale til

Too many many roses

Surrounded the castle where rapunzel shrill

Cried too many, many roses

And dead men tell no lies still

under too many, many roses

Leapfrog

I walked my way to this cliff

I knew I'd be our last kiss

I leap I fall I leave it all

But find that I can fly

I soar, I spiral, I dive

I come up again, alive

Amazing feeling of being free

But I had to jump in order to be

Me

Swallows who amaze on time

Oh but those people I've left behind

Or did they leave me

Or did time just fly

Oh in the wind we lie

Like swallows on the wing

Asleep for most of our lives

Until we realise we can sing

Prayer for the living

 Death is not the final

Destination to which we steer

It is just another passage

Through which we all must clear

But it is harder for a camel to pass

Through the eye of a needle

Than a rich man to get his fat arse

In to heaven's golden steeple

So people if we are to last

We must build a heaven here

On earth

As each day is a blessing vast

Each a new chance at Eden

Orbit

 Living in the twilight zone

Nothing to me seems real

It's like my flashlight is on

But the wagon's lost its wheel

There's only so much psychic space that can

be kept upon a hill

Eventually the bowl fills up

And then it overspills

And the witches they are circling

Upon their broom sticks in the night

Tying threads

And loosening them

As we're a sleeping tight

And we orbit each other

like planets round a sun

Passing

sometimes like ships

Sometime together

Then alone as one

Each of us is a comet

An asteroid on its way

But the orbit round the solar field

Lasts 2 maybe 3 years they say

Then they come back into

our own gravitational  pull

And somehow we collide

inescapably like a fool

What is it we are all circling?

Is is some central sun?

Or is it a buried moon rock

Left over after each generation

Is it an empty sense of self?

Space is a vacuum they say

And nature abhors a vacuum

It must be filled in any way

Life is inevitable

It must carry on

Death just recycles

Energy back into the sun

Statues of you

If I were a man of stone

My sin would go, I would atone

You could stand me up upon a plinth

In praise of my mighty, heroic stints

But I never meant to be just so

In life I was of flesh and bone

And weak moments had I many

I'd be a millionaire by now if I had a penny

If I were a man of glass

You could throw a stone

And I would pass

All shattered into pieces

Lying on the grass

If I were a man of glass

If I were a man of grass

You'd grow me up

In your fields vast

And crop me down

In swathes of your sythe

And lie me flat in waves of lives

And each life you'd gather up

thrash my corn and fill your cup

If I were a man of wood

Well no that would do no good

You'd chop me down

With a swing of your ax

Lay me on the river of your tax

Float me down to build ships and dams

Then I'd be shipwreck or a log jam

So I am a man of metal

You've turned into a robot kettle

I boil up I boil down

You switch me on and off and frown

This metal man talks so funny

Let's buy another with our money

Throw him on the scrap heap of dreams

Discarded, washed up in life's streams

Come and show me an element of what you are

Be it a cow or elephant be it lion or jaguar

We all are made up of parts,

All are pieces of another

So when you think that you won't fit

Just remember your mother

She had you for some reason

Though I can't think what it is

It surely wasn't to make money

As that seems but a swizz

Perhaps it was to be funny

Perhaps to drink some fizz

It seems that some only wish that honey

Were made of swiss cheese and is

So don't stand me up and make me last

I am not a hero who lived in the past

Were they ever as big as their myths?

It seems to me something's amiss

Beyond the prison walls

 Sunrise over the prison

The sun my only friend

Giver of life

The sun sets all men free

Sets my soul free

It says stop living in the past

For the past is a prison

Only in the present moment

Are you

Free

No man or woman can control it

Only in your mind are you free

Remember no matter how deep

A hole you're in

A little Sunlight will

Always shine in

And there is hope in the future

Hope that darkness will not last

Hope that folk heroes

Always had in the past

And despite terror or torment

Or destruction so vast

That the mould we were made in

Was a strong worthy cast

So set not your eyes

On the bars that bind

But look out between them

To free your mind

There are free fields

And lands that were made for you and  me

Somewhere out beyond the sea

Gone fishing

Don't confuse an angel with the hand of God

Though they may tread lightly not on my dreams have trod

The cusps and the auspices of a fragile frigid key

That rings out in the silences of a murdered tranquility

I charge you with the licenses to kill given us to obey as law

With the private alliances that sell the homes of the poor

With all your wretched violences and a crop of quarters more

Torn by bubonic balances and fought out in religious war

The sweet terror of death laps longingly at the shore

The risible visible fire shows, spark the darkest core

The shadows of ambulances raging down the street

Heavy in the night violations of the keepers' peace

Make me blind in boldness, bolt shut the door on sin

And Cast out the devil's kindness into the hole within

The Frames of the window leave a pain in me

For my see-through soul is grinning at the animal sea

And charging like a rhino or extended like a giraffe

The tectonic plates of day crash like storm-blown telegraph

Fly me off to the end, make an end, now what would that be?

To see all heaven in a rage at a little fish caught out at sea

Lifestyle

As I am lying on the floor

I wonder what is more

What is real, what is fake

In this string of give and take

Is all my life just an illusion?

Buy a house and settle down

Move into a nicer part of town

Follow streams and follow flows

Follow the river where it goes

But have a base, have a home

Unless you remain a rolling stone

And even then a line is crossed

Every time you're found and lost

Picked up, thrown to another home

Into the four winds tossed

Life is an illusion

but then we need four walls

To make a full union

Or else all turns sour

Like slaves we cower

From the master's hand that falls

Show us then the real friend

Who will stand by us until the end

Do you hear what I'm saying?

The way that it is
Is this inability to communicate
There is no way that this is
Something that we need
To do this

We don't need to do this
This is the sore
The wound
To scratch and all the mirrors
Are cracked

Are the truths of
Tragedy
And dumbing down the boiling
Rage of passing
Out the plague of houses
And brown nosing
And blood baths
And calamity of ages

Shame is this point
Where they don't listen
Or don't hear
And he doesn't say
And he won't
And there is no understanding
Because men have to know
They need answers for everything

Yoyo
The four transformations
Of killing yourself
To be able to understand

Bed of roses

Life it ain't no bed of roses

Sometimes can be like a bed of thorns

Indeed when your love rejects your poesies

Then you can wish you'd never been born

But someday those thorns will grow back roses

And from the ashes will be a bed of straw

Then the lions will lie down with the asses

And the lamb and lady will come once more

A million miles ahead

Hoopers ahead, a whole world behind

I'm telling you girl, I feel fine

Shooting fish in the barrel with a wooden leg

I've got miles ahead and left a whole world behind

There ain't no use in worrying today

There's no use scraping the bottom of the barrel

If you want to make an omelette you've gotta break some eggs

Got a million miles ahead and left a whole world behind

I left a whole world behind boys, a whole darn world behind

going to try to build a better world tomorrow

you know it's written on my bed, you can sleep when you're dead

Don't get too hung up on all your sorrow

And even if you steal, beg or borrow

You've still got a million miles ahead, left a whole world behind

And you can build a better world tomorrow

Hard lives

 Hard lives, hard lives,

Hard lives in the private eye

Can't disguise hard lives

Hard lives in the private eye

Out of focus, hocus pocus

Hard lives going round the bend

Hard lives, hard lives

Hard lives of some good friends

Whose lives, your lives?

Our lives living til the end

Hard lives, short dives

Short dives off the dive board end

don't give up

Don't give up
For you are loved
Across the plain, the field

Don't give up
Lift on wings of a dove
Its just the way that you feel

These wheels keep on turning
The seasons keep returning
The world resolves
And our problems are solved
By day turning into dark
From the dark you must come out into light

Don't give up
Every breath must be a fight
Every day a struggle against death
Tell death to fuck off
Don't give up
Don't give up

All things pass
The summer wine
In the glass
Soon must be supped
But cast your net
Feel the sea sway
Hold tight the mast
In the storm
The new day will bring
Peace of mind

Mid stream

 If you need anything

Let me know

I need a fish head

I need the legs

To walk on water

Like an Ariel

I need a chance

Heads or tails

Open mouth of whale

Swallowing up a Jonah

I need a fishmonger

Market stall

For sale or rent

My suit of scales

Cheques and balances

I need a spout

I need a fluke

Over the moon

I had a whale of a time

Turning on a dime

I went down to the river bank

And cast my line

I asked the water for some message

I hadn't heard of mine

A fish it jumped

Its tail thumped

Upon the bank it pined

I threw it back

Into the sump

Of blackness and of slime

But far below

The river did flow

Like a life in its prime

What waste to catch a rotten fish

When other fresh waters wind

And I may walk to other rivers

That will give me back my time

Living fuck

Can you make the song bird sing

In the early evening

Can you joke that it's not spring

While the season's turning?

Are you free or are you chained

While the maze of amazing rain

Comes spiralling down upon your brain

Oh tell me what is living?

Are you free to live

Then why not start to give

To your fellow human beings

They aren't blind to what they're seeing

Have the doves of the cot not flown

Out into the storm

Have the wily cocks of home

Not been kept in safe and warm

What of beauty

What of kings

What of all these kinds of things

And what you take

And what life brings

What is it you are finding?

Li-fi

 In life

Do not spend too long on the ordination of spiders

For they have their own legs

And they will carry them

Try not to be fooled by earwigs

For they may get in your ear and whisper many things

Memory is a wonderful thing when founded on common sense

Otherwise try to forget it

The meaning of moths can only be had in daylight

At night they can really elude you

Do not talk too fast nor too slow

For doing either will upset google translate

The best remedy for a cold is not to catch it in the first place

Kings and Queens may come and go, but the monarchy is forever!

Until it's not.

Gargling can increase your life chances by 50% if stuck under water.

Too many cooks spoil the broth, but only if you don't chop them up enough first.

The large stone platform in the world is positioned about Milton Keynes

The thing is nobody gets a chance to look up, and no one wants to look down,

They just keep on going around and around.

Marathon Man

 Hello, is that the marathons?

Yes,

Oh great, I'd like to join you

Well we'd be very pleased to have you. But you've phoned up our help line, so how can we help?

Oh a while ago now I tried to start running

That's great, but are you having suicidal thoughts?

Well sometimes when I'm running

I want to run in front of a truck

Well, you are doing the right thing by phoning us up

and trying to get some exercise

Yes well, for a long time I didn't know you

had a telephone number?

Oh how did you hear about us?

Well I was feeling depressed one day

And someone said I should talk to the 'Marathons'

Uhhuh!

Yes, I figured I better get fit and join the local running team

So you did?

Yes I used to do the Park run every Saturday and then I built

myself up until I could manage a half marathon

Wow, well done you!

Thanks...so when I was there I would really try to talk to the Marathons

about how I was feeling.. you know telling them I was depressed

And what happened?

Well they kept running even faster to try to get away from me!

Amazing

Yes, and so then I would run even faster to try to keep up...I actually broke my own personal best

as did many other runners on that day

I was feeling so good about myself, but still I had this niggling thought

This wasn't quite the full marathon

So Anyway then I joined the London marathon, then New York, Sydney, Nepal

Each time I trying to speak with the marathons, and they really helped me

You know I'velost  pounds of weight, I am fitter than I've ever been

I keep to a strict exercise regime

Well what a fantastic story

So what I wanted to do was thank you personally Mr Marathon for helping me so much

Well, that is really very kind of you as you see we are the Samaritans

Not the marathons?

No the Samaritans, but I'm sure some us are Samaritan runners

Tired

The dog is rising to the moon

The silver ships they leave too soon

Children cry and laugh

And Seagulls do the same

While I am taking a bath

As I try to remember my name

King for a day

What if we were kings just for a day

24 hours on a king's pay

They'd do anything, anything that we say

If we were kings, just for a day

just for a day
