All alone in the Ark

 Where is that Angel tonight

I'm praying with all of my might

The begging woman in the car park

Getting change for a space, making space for change

The junky walks across the graveyard

And pain swings low down in his chariot

You are hurting me

He says

You are hurting me

As you touch my face

And the dark eyed loser

retraces his steps

All alone in Noah's Ark

All alone in the park

All alone in the dark

As the animals play

In the forests of the world

And the cuckoo calls

From the olive tree

And I am like a dove

With my mouth full of dry branches

The night flashes

And the thunder crashes

And the fishes play with the sharks

The horses neigh, and the chickens lay

And Noah is all alone in the Ark

Oh you can hear the world turning

And see the ships on the sea

You can find out all that you're learning

Should be no kind of big mystery

But the cuckoo still calls in the tree

And the dogs run free in the park

As junkies are stoned, and Noah's still alone

Yes he's still all alone in his Ark

And am I an animal

He says

Is my soul a hole in the dark

Do I shun the contact

Who will light the spark?

Is my soul an animal

Away from human hark

Have I become the pairless bird

Who stands aboard the Ark?

Trouble

Trouble is a two legged word

It starts at the beginning

and

Never ends

Haven't you heard

You'd better keep your head down

Else you'll be the one who's hurled

Head long into a tornedo

Of things you never meant

Except you told the world

Chalk and cheese

Cheese and chalk

Are survivors

After the last ice age

Of the glaciers

Who lick their tongues

Spread their seed

Sew their forests

Pick their weed

Oh Trouble is a two legged beast

Tipping point

 Down in the dumps

Where everything jumps

The rabbit thumps

And the old dog slumps

Down in the dumps

Where the sea gull stumps

His old broken leg

Over the lumps

Well things are looking up

Down in the dumps

Full of rubbish, and garbage and waste

Full of tubes of tooth paste

And the bitter taste

More pace less haste

Leads you down the road

to the dumps

The tip, the refuse heap

Where they give you a clip

Tell you to pin yourself

To the dart board

Where the bicycle pumps

Don't work

Full of knots, and cots, and hotspots

Full of nettles and kettles and forget-me-nots

Where the flowers grow over

Other people's junk

Some ships have sunk

An iron hunk

These are the things you find

Down in the dumps

But there is blue sky crying

Its colour into the grey

Leaching its powers into

better days

And has-been machines

That should have been on their way

But stay

Like a museum

To remark upon decay

Yet the sun always shines upon them

The birds will still sing

This spring, that winter

Days have past and been seen

Some things were built to last

Some are known as sure things

Some in racks some in ruins

Some wrecks are the balls of a giant

Many are marked by the strong

Sinewy muscles ligaments and tendons

Of diggers turned to rust

But stand unyielding to the last

Waiting the dying rays of the sun

They endure

Smart Thinking

 So I thought

I'd be sophisticated and buy myself

Some Smart Water

The plastic bottle

seemed more intelligent

and more environmentally friendly

Because it was labelled Smart

And so I thought

I was both helping to save the

Environment

While at the same time

Rehydrating

When in fact, I could have just gone home and turned on the tap

Now that is Smart

Extinction Rebellion

Welcome to the Climate change activists ball

Entry requirements:

First you must have previously spent the majority of your working life

Working for either an oil company or

alternatively an airline

From this you must have earnt enough money to

afford a safe and secure home

And a safe and secure pension

Then you need to retire

And then feel guilty enough about

Your nice comfortable home

And the world's poor

And the whole inequality of life

That leaves you in the Haves

and the rest of humanity in the have nots

That you then protest about what got you into that

position in the first place

But about which

You are doing nothing

such as selling your home and giving the proceeds to

Some poor folk

Instead stay strong and secure and wear the mask of Rebellion

Without really living your working life as one

Climate change on the horizon

 Climate change on the horizon

It's already here, temperature's rising

And I'm outta range

 Why is all this surprising?

Climate change on the horizon

Low sun red, rivers full of millions

High moon ahead, petrol pumps dryin'

I'm over my head, standing on the pavilion

And Kangaroos are dead and possums are cryin'

Climate change on the horizon

Look out son it's coming to you

Father doesn't know what the world is coming to

Mother said well I heard it wasn't true

Daughter read better walk in another's shoe

We all can see so it's not surprising

Climate change is on the horizon

Dawn blood red, many rivers over-spilling

Flooding bed stead and the roads are over filling

They tried killing me dead, with their fracking and drilling

That's what the Earth said but she never shed a shilling

Now the crows are overhead and the carcass is thrilling

There's a lane to the land of the dead, but nobody's chilling

Now I'm cold to the bone, I can hear cicadas trilling

It's like getting blood out of a stone, when nobody's willing

Climate change coming, it's on the horizon

Pathetic fallacy

 Oh what a pathetic fallacy

They said the day would never come

That climate change fiction

Had us under its thumb

But I don't need a weatherman

To tell me when to run

Oh what a pathetic fallacy

They said it was true

But then I felt blue

Under the oppressive rain clouds which drew

Like a curtain across the sky

Like in the theatre when the play is done

Oh what a pathetic fallacy

They Said cheer up chum it may never happen

When the lightning was flashing and the thunder a-clappin'

And my thought's they turned mad like when Hamlet lost his dad

Oh what a pathetic fallacy

Then in the desert like heats that came

I was wont to remember even my own name

Quick to anger and he was the same

Who pointed to the wilting crops and cried

Who's to blame?

Oh what a pathetic fallacy

So was it true or was it false?

Well the evidence of change has revealed itself

And fact or fiction, we prick and bleed

The dream is real, we feel and need

The time is running out

And the sun it is a setting

On a day that seemed to last

Forever for forgetting

With four seasons and four walls

Fortitude and forty falls

Of the human who came from Eden

Oh what a pathetic fallacy

My single use plastic heart

 It is recycling day tomorrow

And I'm trying to decide where to put

you

is it a glass heart, or plastic?

Perhaps a carboard heart after all

A single use plastic heart

That just clogs up the world's oceans

When I flush it down the loo

I say ban single use plastic hearts

Perhaps that's not a radical view

Many have come to that conclusion before me

Including you

Well it could have been made of

recycled plastic

It's been used many times before

It goes soggy in the rain

Like the cardboard

And like glass I'm sure its see through

Just which heart shaped box

Should I toss it in?

Which one

Before I buy one anew?

More trees please

 The trees, the trees

Send them in

The ides of March are wearing thin

The pine and larch and ever green

Where are they now that I have seen?

The roads are bare, we cry take heed!

They can't bear our load

Or meet our need

No shadows now are drawing long

Only the night's blessings to keep us strong

Each day a furnace of solar fire

Baking the roads where cars are for hire

And more and more roads we lay down

In Roman fare of overcrowded town

And what of the so called wasteland?

These are not nothings we hold in our hand

Even a glebe or a bramble strewn field

Can be turned into a woodland of cooling heal

We think we can live just as we did before

But this is just folly of standing on threshold of the door

We either wait out side and decide our future dies

And that of generations yet unborn we sacrifice

Or we make a stand here and now

and say no more building put away your spade and trowel

Let's reuse the old buildings let's plant more trees

Let's put our heads together and this problem might ease

Captain planet

I have seen the rising of the moon

And I have leant into the arms

Of the sea

I have known that this life only

Is lie in a tragedy

Captain planet he's a hero

Gonna take pollution down to

Zero

Gonna tell you this life is framed

For the murder of futures unnamed

He's gonna wave the chequered flag

He's gonna leave you to carry the bag

He's off on holiday and round the bend

And this way or that way he'll be your friend

Captain planet, I wish I knew you

And could let down my hair in a new hair do.

There is something wrong.

 There is something wrong here

The tides don't work so well

They rose up but they never fell

There is something wrong with the sun

It seems to burn all day long

It has burnt the sun dial away

And now time lies melted, like a flipflop

There is something wrong with this beach

The way the sand has turned to glass

And I can see through to the rocks below

And I can tell now

There is something wrong with this snow

It blows too hard, like little pebbles

It is like being stoned

And the crows are lying dead on their sides

There is something wrong with the rain,

The way is floods the weather vein

Is squealing like a pig

The cockrel is crowing on the oil rig

And the waves are crashing like tsunamis

There is something wrong with these

Reindeer armies

That march in herds across melting ice

As sheets break up

Before their eyes

And icebergs melt outside your kitchen

There is something wrong with this pleasant scene

But what is wrong I cannot tell

It is just that I don't feel so well

As I used to

In the good old days

When the sea was sea

And clouds knew how to snow

Soft like a film reel from my childhood

But now there is something wrong

And it don't feel so good

Every leaf that falls

There is a reason in the soaring bird
There's reason in the clouds
There is sense in each and every call
Of the dove above the crowd
There is method in the madness
Of the writer in his word
And for every up there is a down
For every leaf that falls

There will be time enough for progress
And relegation to the trees
There will be judgement in the congress
Before we can be free
And every shadow traces an outline
Of each object in the hall
There is a name on every bullet
And in every leaf that falls

In the hour of the circumstance
That rounds the era's drawl
The women with kalashnikovs
The snakes on the ground still crawl
And Eve is walking with Adam
Down groves paradisiacal
Their relection in every apple
And in every leaf that falls

I have seen them in the aftermath
Of the world's uncertainy
In the face of the clown that laughs
In the honour of bravery
And any time you hear sound of an Angel's call
Be sure you lay down the gun once and for all
For there is innocense in the flower
And deep knowledge in dark night
And a nameless sorrow in its power
And in every leaf that falls
