This summer sun

I recall the sun before it went down

Burning brightest

Like a jewel in the crown

I recall the orchard, and the Bristol Down

Oh the Summer sun, just before it goes down

And all the memories of forgotten elephants

Who sit in rooms

Trying to remember

And yet they have nothing to regret

No there's nothing to regret

When you can forget

I remember dances

And halls

By the sea

And taking chances

Like glances of infinity

And in those eyes that seem to stretch

On to forever

I got lost in eternity

Oh now I can remember

And certain sun's faces

And glances in halves

The King or the aces

Turn up like the cards

And I can remember

I took a gamble on you

Your eyes were the dice

And you rolled them true

Double sixes a pair

Of diamonds shone true

Oh I can remember

The chance taken on you

Yes I'll never play that hand again

Not the same anyway

The tables have turned

The players gone away

And I have learned

To remember it's true

That the sun will burn brighter

When the days nearly through

For there's nothing but living

And loving to do

So come hug me tighter

For I'm swimming to you

Late developer

 I was a late developer

Slow to cotton on

But as I programmed in the night

I knew my button song

Turn it off, turn it on

The genes which do dictate

Whether a person will

Develop early or late

Magma, Dogma, Mama Dog

 I guess it wasn't enough

You tried to paper over the living

Crust

But it was always changing

Pulled by the heart's core

The magma of our blood

Kept coming up for more

Oh is the world enough?

It isn't

For this love to never leave us alone

Like a wound

That will never heal

Like the cut in the mouth

You tried to paper over the crust of the earth

With your newspaper headlines

Shouting what it is worth

Or what it is not,

This is love, and the world

isn't enough

The nameless sky

I saw you in the pennies ways

And half a cup of tea

and balderdash and many days

Between the sky and ski

And thought it left me like a jar

Empty of the jam

Looking out Into the sky

Asking who I am

Love it was a flightless bird

Oh but love did light the way

From corridors too absurd

To block or to give way

More than morning

Morose and mourning

Hit the qualities of shade

That all these starving darling starlings

Could now eat what man had made

But God shook the totem poles

Of power and of play

And took dark towers where wise men cower

And the good may hide away

And he felled with axes

The tree of life he made

For unless it grows with taxes

Then money collecting never pays

I fought my way to Eden

I fought til kingdom came

And all dark storms did weaken

In the coming of brighter names

And when the words were spoken

Then spells they fell like flames

And landed upon the heads of those

Who chose life instead of fame

I kissed the hand of Jesus

And the 12 apostles' shame

Which one of them did laud it over

Him with such a claim?

That all God's earth was kingdom

And the King he shall reclaim

His right seat at throne of power

And all shall know his name

Windows

well I used to think I had purpose

That gave me reason or rhyme

I used to think I could purchase

All I could buy of your time

But now it all seems so worthless

Just like a river of slime

Oh youth is all out to hurt us cos

I'm starting to run out of time

Nothing means what it says and

Nothing really is crime

When justice is a burnt olive branch

I keep getting handed time after time

Might it is like a sand castle

That the sea washes away in its tides

And Power is like a toy sail ship

That's adrift down the river or rhine

Come show me back to my own lands

I don't want to die on this hill

Many heroes have come here before us

And I've no doubt many more will

There is no vacuum between us

Except the one that our silence would kill

Oh I'm running in circles and the window cleaners

Can't wipe the stain from the sill

Beat the clock

I was going to a fancy-dress party dressed as an egg timer

Then another friend said

We'd better start running if we we want to get there on time

I said who ever heard of an egg timer getting to a party on time

And she said it isn't cool is it?

I said no, now set me.

Alright she said and gave me a turn

We better start running she said

I've got calories to burn

So as I was running down a dark alley

A mugger stopped me and asked

Could I take his mugshot

I said it wasn't my cup of tea

And anyway I was hot

He said you're boiling mate, I think you're burning up

In fact I think you have a temperature

I said we are trying to beat the clock

He said let me help you and gave me a

clock round the ear

I said I think you've cracked it

He said I think you're shell shocked

Well this other mugger then appeared

I said oh here's your brother from another mugger

He said no that's just my tea bag friend

I said well I guessed that should do it

I can see how this story  will end

No, no he said, I think you've misunderstood

We are on are way to the same party

But we got lost in the neighbourhood

So we ran on together, down blind alleys and

Dead ends

But finally we came to the right cul-de-sac

they like to call daggers bends

I could the point they were trying to make

With a name like that it offends

And the wolf pack were glaring out their windows

Like they were hungry to make friends

Well I fought them tooth and claw

And finally we made it to the front door

Where the part was in full swing

Come on let's go in you said

But I haven't brought anything

Look you got here on time

And that isn't a crime

Not until your egg timer rings

I can make it through

 I can make it through

If I'm drunk on you,

I can make it through to the end

Yes and in the little hut

Somewhere in the desert

I was hauled up

Like an outlaw

And you came to see me,

But all you saw

Was a vision of a ghost of a friend

Oh I can make it through

If I'm drunk on you

Yes I can make it through till the end

And if you close the door

Or be my Jackdaw

I'll invite you in as my friend

Don't spare me now, sparrow

I have only a cow

I'll have only a scowl for your owl

Who comes looking, and asking who's who

Well I can't make sense round the bend

But I'll make it through in the end
